I think the better word is 'rancio', a term people usually use when talking about cognac, although some tequila I've had has had some rancio flavor.Quote:

Rancio in table wines isn't meant to be good. I drank this maderized '81 Bordeaux at a class at my school last year. The wine was full-on brown and smelled and tasted like a library that had been flooded. It wasn't good, although I didn't dislike it.
