Greatest character intros

Ahem... yes, well, as the topic says, what are your favorite character inroductions? It can be bosses, main characters, NPCs, whatever.

I'll have to go with the boss in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow... crap, I can't remember his name... the huge one with his face in the background and he tries to smash you with his hands... anyway:
you enter the boss room and all these bats come and form a giant bat, like the first boss in the first CV... so you're thinking, "oh, cool, they put in that old boss"... then the real boss' hands come out of the darkness and messily smash the giant bat!

Man, that was the coolest.

So, what's yours?

Samus "beaming" into the depths of Zebes in the original NES Metroid- dramatic music and all.

I think it was Spryo 2. There's this huge Yeti like boss terrorizing the level, and when you finally make your way up to him, the ceiling collapses and just crushes him. Found that to be pretty funny.

I think your Aria of Sorrow example just reminded me of that... I'll think of something better now :)

Solid Snake on the elevator in Metal Gear Solid is pretty damn badass.

Or, you know, the ninja. What better way to show you mean business right off the bat by cutting a dude's hand off.

As a very modern one, I do like the cutscene of deploying the Chapter 3 boss in Ninja Gaiden.

How about Ryu's chapter four entrance? That was very slick.

They're all good. Even though I don't like the game a whole lot (wow I love how I snuck that in!!)...cool cutscenes.

The huge metal skeleton in Super Contra III.

Here's one I liked :)

Dracula X (PC-Engine)
I forgot what stage but just when you reach the werewolf boss, you see him howling in the far distance on a stone/rock pillar in the background then he jumps and as he leeps the pillar collapses and he lands in the foreground with you're character.

Think that's the end of the first stage, and yes that was a cool moment to be sure :)
