Well major props to you for doing what you're doing - it takes guts - I draw parallels to what Henry Rollins did when he joined Black Flag (from the "Get in the Van" book) which was sold everything he had, quit his job, and jumped in a van with Black Flag to head to Los Angeles and wing it. Major guts - good job!
The closest I've ever been to South Padre is Brownsville but hell thats practically Mexico anyway. Becareful of the slutties Icepick, the shanty towns across the Rio Grande in Mexico are close together and for the most part run all along the west and central coasts of the river - which means that not only do the drugs get around quickly, but so do the slutties if you know what I mean.
Oh and one more thing - never, EVER swim in the Gulf of Mexico - you notice how the water is either shit brown or black? When I first got to Texas in 1986 I could've sworn it was blue!

The water near South Padre is blue. The water near Galveston is very brackish though. Kinda what you might expect near a city build on Oil. Hell even around Corpus it's alright looking. Glad you're having a good time. I'll give you a ring later in the day.

Holy shit, that is so awesome icepick. I am so envious.

Sometimes I dream,
That he is me,
You've got to see that's way I dream to be.
The dream I made,
The dream I grew,
Like Icepick, if I could be like Icepick.

The water in the gulf is brown because the Gulf Stream deposits silt there, not because of pollution, though I'm sure there is plenty of that too.
