For any that care, PS2 controls are *MUCH* better than trying to play the game with a mouse and keyboard. It's best to play the PC version with a PS2 controller actually.
The game is really fun but after a while the lack of certain features (like PvP) make it less enticing. But if you're not sure, I'd say don't bother... your cons were pretty big cons.

If you don't like MMORPGs, you probably won't like FFXI. And as far as having huge computer requirements... I don't really think so. Sure, it'll run better if you have a better system, but the requirements aren't that huge. And don't be judging it's performance on city-play, because it'll run like shit on anything in a city :P
Yeah there isn't any chance that this will be a collectors item (although it's in my collection :D), I can only see you making money if the stores sell out and they are in some sort of short supply... but otherwise this isn't some sort of limited edition... not unless when they start selling the HDD seperately they stop making the bundle with Final Fantasy XI game and sell it seperately... but that isn't likely I don't think ;)
Up till last year I was stoked about the chance to play FFXI along with Galaxies, and I didn't think I'd have enough time for both of them.
Well, I don't have enough time for even Galaxies, I've had my account since last July and have barely even touched it (doesn't help it plays horribly on my machine), but for some reason I still want to hang onto my account because I have the name "Ragnarok" saved on a couple of servers. When I started playing, like, the day after it launched, the name was already taken on numerous servers so if I give it up then want to pick it up again down the road, it'll be long gone.
So, Dustin, what I recommend to you is don't pick up FFXI unless you're prepared to dedicate A LOT of time into it and really make the money worth it. If you're not prepared to do that and feel it'll just sit on your shelf more often than not, just steer clear.
I heard that even as a MMORPG, FFXI blows. Anyone wanna confirm it?
And why not just the PC version? Pay for the price of a game, not a game + 40GB HDD that only FFXI uses (for now).
