? Number of jobs increase as the population increase. It is like the difference between a town of 100 people versus a 1000. The number of jobs decreasing is a result of "efficiency"* in the business place more than anything else.

*eg. There was fours accountants for four hospitals and now there is one accountant for all four that gets the exact same play as before when he was working for one hospital.

Town of 2000 in Europe with 1500 available jobs. The population of Europe is shrinking. Town of 2000 becomes town of 1800, then of 1700, etc. But you still have the same number of jobs available.

15/17 > 15/24. And since the USA and European countries are both developed first-world countries, its reasonable to assume that they will both be equally efficient, so you can replace that 15 with a lower number and the inequality will hold.

That was my point.

That was my point.

Unless you include exporting goods, the number of jobs decrease when the population decreases because the number of goods and services required decreases.

When originally a town could support 5 take outs/resaurants now could only support 4, number of employees needed to output the lowered number of goods makes some employees redundant and thus "let go".

My little town has like 3 "hot bread" shops, where there only needs to be one. But because of the number of people in town, it could support all 3.

But as I said, exported goods are the "X factor" that really makes a big difference because of the goods sold can be much higher. So in most cases you would be right, I think.

At my summer job I'd LOVE to get some overtime, time-and-a-half or not. Unfortunately, overtime work regulations DENY me the opportunity to work more than 40 hrs a week b/c the school district won't pay me time-and-a-half. Many of these mandatory overtime pay scales hurt guys like me by denying us 60-80 hr weeks, even tho I'd gladly work those extra hrs at the regular pay scale. Yet another example of good intentions gone bad.

(I should add that overtime shouldn't be completely done away with as there are plenty of jobs that need to provide extra incentive to workers to work longer hours; a buddy of mine will be working 96 hr weeks this summer for a construction firm - he wouldn't be doing that if it weren't for 150% pay btw 40-60 hrs and 200% pay btw 60-96 hrs.)

That is a great example of why Socialism is not the god send some of the posters on these boards make it out to be. It has just as much potential for evil, if not more as any other political belief system.

In the U.S. many of the things that make the average worker's life harder are done so under the banner of Socialism. I've stated this before, but much of my farther’s own hardships come from Socialistic laws, regulations, and guidelines the government has forced on him and his practice. These past two years have been his worst. Some months he makes negative money because it magically gets lost in the system. This month he is selling his farther's land to pay his income taxes because of shit like this. We have never had to resort to something like this. It all just makes sick, just how fucked up it all is.

It really pisses me off every time I read one of Almaci's "Socialism is great" post. I have to live with what happens when you have assholes using Socialism, and I have to live with how it torments my farther. The shit isn’t perfect and it won’t fix everything. The inability to admit that it can cause a great deal of harm is insulting and aggravating.

The U.S. does not need more Socialism. It needs fewer assholes.

You seem to leave out the fact that our productivity despite the fact that we have so much time of is as high and higher then the ones at the US branches of the company.

Urm we dont have socialism over here, its semi socialist semi capitalist system.
The protections are there but so are the opportunities to go for double pay instead of payed leave.

I like it this way.
