I have never watched the theatrical version, only the DC. I have to say, the Hollis death scene is one of the most memorable scenes. I was surprised when I read that this was not in the theatrical cut.
As I mentioned before, while the hollis death scene is good, I felt it didn't have as strong of impact as it did in the comics because they made him uber badass and able to fight back for a while, it hit so much harder in the comic when it was this defenseless old man getting wrecked.
I like the fact that he fought back a little bit, a fighter to the end. But your point is also a good one.
