The folks you were asking about, Dolemite, aren't really cosplaying as anything - they're dressed in EGL (Elegant Gothic Lolita) fashion. The girl on the right in the second pic, her outfit is pretty nice.
And while I dislike most cosplay, I love the girl doing Heather. Great costume.
I think the trouble with most cosplay is
1. People don't put enough thought and work into a costume. They use the wrong type of clothes, and don't put enough detail into them.
2. People dress up as people that they look nothing like. Fat old men as sailor moon for example.
Size-appropriate cosplay makes me really happy. After seeing a thousand fat 30 year old Narutos, Sasukes, and Sakuras at Otakon last year, I was pleased to see a fairly large dude dressing up as Chouji at Anime Boston, and not someone he could never, ever pass for.Quote:
