Hmm... I can't say anything about this.
So I'll come back to the original message. There's an article about this here, sadly it's in German, but the article is interesting because it seems to be the original message, and a religious upbringing is not mentioned at all, instead it's hinted that there may be a biological problem that prevents the man from having sex, something the couple didn't really want to talk about.
In this form the whole thing sounds a lot less funny, I'm afraid... but at least they don't spell Lübeck as Lubek...
