Mercenaries
I recently saw a few movies of Mercenaries, a new game by Lucasarts (developed by the Full Spectrum Warrior team) for the PS2, and it looks amazing. I'd say it's a good example of software that really shows what a system can do as it approaches the end of its cycle, as I and I'm sure many others initially mistook it for an Xbox game.
Gamespot coverage and movies.
Basically, it looks like a wartime GTA, you can jack vehicles like tanks, jeeps, and helicopters. of note is a particularly amazing sequence where the main character jumps and onto the barrel of a tank cannon, shimmies up to the hatch, opens it and throws a grenade in, then jumps into the controls and starts blasting away. The animations for this game look incredibly well done. Otherwise it looks like pretty standard, but solid, fare.

I think this title looks like it could be a lot of fun. I hope it doesn't suffer the same fate of LucasArts Armed and Dangerous (great game, poor sales).

Interesting, definately going to have to keep an eye out for this one.

had enough of gta copies , dont know if this is worthwhle

I'm bored to death with GTA-style games, but this and Destroy All Humans look incredibly promising. Pandemic has impressed the hell out of me, two E3s in a row.

What are all these GTA clones you guys are bored of? There have been a number of crime themed games like The Getaway and Mafia but they don't really resemble GTA very much in design.

This game does look really rad, and has some really interesting twists on things. Storyline sounds neat, that there are like 52 criminals you are hunting that represent a certain playing card (sort of like the militarys deal on the Iraqi war criminals bit). I like how they are taking the GTA idea of game world interaction and making a different genre of game out of it, not just being a criminal. Same with Destroy All Humans. Good stuff.
The only GTA clones I can think of are True Crime, Getaway, and Mafia. Thats three games, plus the 2 modern GTAs. 5 games in total. State of Emergancy is nothing like GTA, nor is Manhunt if those were some of the games someone would add as GTA clones. Just my thoughts.

New, free, demo available at many Gamestops and EBs. Ask your sales rep.
You can drop carpet bombs just about anywhere you please, and the vehicles explode beautifully.

I was just about to bump this. Thanks for that and the heads up on the demo.
Glad they decided to do an Xbox port. Seems like Lucasarts is getting pretty chummy with the 'box as of late.

The premise is promising. I've no great hope for the execution but...
Maybe I should pick up that demo. Anyone tried it yet?
