Sci-Fi Show reccomendation

well i just finished watching the firefly dvd set, and i absolutely adore the show. but now, there is a void in me, and since it seems i greatly prefer watching TV shows on DVD then on actual TV i have decided to come here for some more advice (as i have asked one friend already) as to what i should get. he suggested FarScape and a nice new alternative, also i was looking into Andromeda which i hear gets decent as it rolls into season 2. I already own Angel 1-3, Prisoner 1-5, 24 season 1-2, and of course Firefly Complete.

what else is there? i have obviously enjoyed these shows very much and am considering jumping on the FarScape bandwagon. so is Andromeda better than its first season? is there a show i am missing? what about this british show called MI-5? need more reccomendations.

Okay, definetly go for Farscape, it's a fantastic show. Skip Andromeda, it's okay, but its not that great either. You seem to like the whole "people having adventures on a spaceship" genre, so there's always Star Trek the Next Generation, I'd steer clear from the other ST shows, since they all pretty much stink. Then there's the humorus alternative, Red Dwarf, one of the funniest shows ever, and despite that it's a comedy, it does scifi rather well.

Now we get into Stargate SG1, which is one of my favorite shows on tv today, it's a hard show to just jump into, but it's definetly worth the effort. And I almost forgot about the X-Files, but this is an obvious choice, excellent show. On a similar note, Millenium was good, but not for every one. And if you like shows that don't have core plot but short stories, the newer outer limits produced some amazingly good episodes, but I don't know if this is on dvd. Oh, yeah, then there's Sliders, a show that I loved at the time, and like now due to nostalgic value, but this one is really hit or miss with most people.

And stay away from shit like Mutant X, Cleopatra 2525 and Earth Final Conflict.

SG-1 is a great show to get into and it'll take you some time to get through it all. The first 6 seasons are out on DVD and it's going into it's 8th this year on Sci-fi along with the new spinoff Stargate Atlantis. Farscape is also great, I just wish the DVD sets were as cheep as SG-1.

And I really dug Earth Final Conflict for the first 3 seasons and the 4th was ok too but the 5th was just pure garbage up until the last 2 or 3 episodes. But I'm also one of the only people I've ever met who actually likes the show. It's just too bad they're going backwards with the DVDs. The fifth season was the first released and they've gone back from there to 3 so far.

Xfiles( dvd sets available now) and Millenium (coming out soon) were great shows. Especially if you like scifi/horror.

I would also mention SG-1 since many people seem to like that one alot.

Millenium sounded like an interesting choice to go for. but then doesnt that phase out in season 2? how about ALIAS? not sci-fi but has a nice adventure element, any thumbs up/ down on those?

It's a little old, and you'll be hard pressed to find the episodes, but if you ever get a chance I highly recommend seeing Brimstone.

Farscape is alright... but it is over rated. The directing in it is dodgy at times because the director doesn't pace things out properly. Other scenes are directed beautifully, considering the challenging subject matter, but the action sequences leave a lot to be desired.

You already own Angel 1 - 3 and Firefly (I do to). I recommend something like Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. It's as good as Angel up until Season 5. Season 6 and 7 are good but not on the same excellent level.

Andromeda is cool. Dark Angel may be something you want to check out, but it gets pretty far fetched and goofy in the later seasons. I also recommend The Sheild. It's not Sci-fi but it's a high quality show I think you'll enjoy.

If you want more sci-fi, then I'd recommend Deep Space 9. It is, by far, the best Star Trek series of all time. TNG is good, but DS9 had a progressive story which built up throughout the series. That's a good thing.

Star Gate SG-1 is the most recent show (still airing) that reminds me of DS9. Simply because the story, characters and relationships all get more entertaining and enthralling the more you watch.

I'd much rather see Lexx back on as well as Babylon 5. If they could ever get around to showing that big war again on Deep Space 9, I'd be up for some of that as well.

I personally vote x-files be taken off, Fox already plays it enough and it's pretty boring compared to what I'd rather watch.

DS9, past Season 1 & 2, was all about war.

There's nothing wrong with the action sequences, or any of the special effects in the show, all things considered the show does a wonderful job in this respect.

Which is the same reason why Farscape is as good as it is.

No way.

First off, Avery Brooks is the worst actor on the planet, a wooden chair could deliver a better performace than him. Then there's the fact that every other episode centers around Quark and his cronies. Quark is such an obnoxious waste of time, it's infuriating to watch this show and have to spend half of an episode on his lame misadventures. It's almost as bad as Voyager, and it's holodeck overload, but at least some interesting episode come out it. In that show the holodeck goes nuts and locks people inside world war 2, in Ds9 we get an entire episode about Quark's mom and her clothes.

And then there's all that garbage psuedo religion they added in for the hell of it. That is stupidest, and most pointless garbage ever in a series, ever. Even worse than all the idiotic tom foolery that takes place in every episode of Voyager. Not to mention that almost every actor sucks as much as the captain does. The doctor, odo, and whatever that annoying alien that odo likes with the manly short hair is named, are all extremely annoying actors. The only worthwhile people on that show are Colm Meany and Michael Dorn, not surprisingly, O'brien and Worf can't help but be awesome, given their background. This show is bad, Babylon 5 bad.
