I used Opera 7.5 and love it, but the lack of Active X makes me keep going back to IE.
recently i started using Mozilla, and want to know the difference between Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox. Is FF 0.9 the final version? or is it still beta?
are they both secure? also, can i set up both to add booknarks to my internet explorer favorites folder(since i back it up everyonce in a while)
and last, do you recommend i use FF(it's buggy) or should i go with Mozilla 1.7?

Firefox is essentially regular Mozilla minus all the spyware-esque shit and extra bells & whistles nobody uses.
0.9 is likely the last official Beta release before the official 1.0 release a few months down the road, but I'll be honest, the browser's pretty much perfect now and I haven't encountered any problems on it that I occasionally did on 0.7 and 0.8. It's pretty much become my full-time browser now completely replacing IE.
It's very secure and it's easy to import Favorites from IE into it. I highly recommend it, it's at least worth a download and try. I'm pretty sure you'll dig it :)

I'm on Mozilla 1.7 and so far soo cool, but Firefox has a nicer feel.....plus i love the Firefox icon more than anything :p heheheh, it's so cool i actually got the Firefox wallpaper for my windows background :)
btw, how do you like Opera 7.5? i've bee using it and i think it's awesome, has alot of depth, but i hated that fact it was lacking Active X, plus some pages didnt looks right, icons missing and all. I still fully support them and love Opera :) I also got Opera for my Nokia cellphone and it's awesome, makes surfing on GPRS a breeze!
Edit: i love how FF imports cookies, favorites....and all that stuff. very usefull. and i didn't know that Mozilla has spyware! :wtf: ...dunno if you know this, but there are talks that Nokia might buy out Mozilla.

As far as Nokia buying out Mozilla, I don't see how that can happen, because Mozilla is an open-source project that's basically now just a bunch of people around the world working together on the browser. When they were released from AOL/Netscape, they just sort of became a group - not really a company, or anything that could really be bought. And the source code for Mozilla is out there, so even if somehow they were bought, somebody else could just pick up working on the source code from its last point of being OS.
ActiveX is the Nazi software in Internet Explorer that all the spyware and adware programs use to hijack your browser and ruin your computer. I don't know why you'd ever need it other than to destroy your system.
I hate it when I click the wrong button and wipe out my damned post. Anyway, FF is a striped down version of Mozilla, as Ragnarok said. Not sure what he meant by the "spyware" comment, but FF is just the browser engine. Mozilla also includes a chat client, an email client, and a news reader, if you like. They are both very secure (especially compared to IE; just read the news on the Download.Ject/Scop trojan).
I must be cursed, because I haven't had tons of luck with FF 0.9. I've had to uninstall and reinstall twice at work. Meanwhile, I've been running 0.8 here at home without a problem. I think out of the box, 0.9 is probably fine, but I run a lot of plugins, and some of the plugins don't like each other on 0.9. The best thing about FF is the expandability. Mozilla supports a fair number of plugins, but most of the communities effort is towards FF these days. In fact, after 1.8, I'm not sure if there will be any further work on Mozilla. The number of plugins for FF is mind boggling. There's zoom image, undo close last tab, dictionary search, Sage (an RSS aggregator/sidebar), blogging software, web editing software, calculators, tetris, etc. Moz and FF have THE best built-in pop-up blocker on the planet, and it's free and constantly improving. There's even a plugin for removing any object from a webpage. So I could right-click on an annoying flash ad on IGN and block it. :)
Mozilla and FF store your bookmarks in a single file called bookmarks.html which is stored in your C:\Documents And Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla (or Firefox or Phoenix (FF's old name). If you back up that folder, it will save your bookmarks, passwords, cookies, preferences, you name it.
I'd at least give FF 0.9 a try, since it's a small download and it won't fry your system or anything. Once you start using tabbed browsing, you won't be able to live without it.
If there is a link in Firefox that does not work for you, get the IE View extension. It allows you to right click a link and open it in Internet Explorer. It's much easier than opening Internet Explorer separately.
