The abolishment of slavery had a direct effect on both the slaves, and the slave owners. While it directly affected the slaves in a good way, it certainly hurt the slave owners. My question is this: who does it directly hurt? People argue about "the disruption of society" and how it'll hurt the "sanctity of marriage" but they never say how. Giving slaves rights took "rights" away from the slave owners, but who is hurt by allowing gay marriage? Gay marriage will not take rights away from anyone, in any way, so I'm still not exactly sure what the supposed problem is. It certainly hasn't caused any harm to straight couples in Massachusetts or the Netherlands.Quote:
