Media Play around here gets their game shipments for Wednesday releases... so if a game is released on a Thursday, it won't be there and on the shelves until the next Wednesday. That's how much they think people don't care.

Didn't all new games used to come out on Tuesday?
I seem to remember that was the case, and now it seems the fuckers come out whenever they please. It's espically annoying if you want to get two new games on the same week, and one is tuesday and the other is thursday, espically if the store is quite a drive away.
I almost went to get Gungrave OD tommorrow, but it dosen't even ship until tommorrow, which is some weird bullshit.
Also, all the stores need to release things on the same god damn day. EB and Gamestop get things on Tuesday, Best Buy and Circuit City a few days after that, Wal-Mart a week later. You don't see this kind of inconsistency with dvd's.
Very true. Personally, I hate going to EB or GS and finding out that it isn't in due to the day being the "ship date." It wasn't all that long ago that stuff WAS on the shelves on that date, now it's just become an excuse for sloppiness, seemingly. It's annoying to me, as a consumer, as I can only get out to a store so many times in a week.
i agree, games need to get in gear with the rest of media - Tuesdays please. Its not too much to ask for a standardized street date.
Especially if more people keep it:
And Dyne we're calling you dumb because; that's exactly what your post was. It's best if you let this die.
the whole "shipping date" thing has reallyl annoyed me too. The guy gave me this whole speech about how he hates how everyone comes in on a particular day when it's the shipping day, so it won't be in. But I replied back, "well, then how come when I used to come in on these so called 'shipping days' I got the game?" I've used the same list I always have (GameFAQs.com), so why would that change. Oh well. Luckily I rarely buy games right away. It's only for $20 games that I get them day one.
Definitely. I unknowingly walked into GameStop on Madden's release date, and it was huge. Tons of people there waiting for the shipment. So much for people not caring.Quote:

Speaking of pains in the ass, GGX2#R is supposed to finally be at GameStop tomorrow. It had better fucking be there.
I realize that maybe two people, total, read the lists I post weekly (you know, that front page thing you ignore to come straight to the forums) but one of the things I made a point of doing was adding a day to the "shipping date" so that it's actually accurate for when the game can be bought. Who cares when the game ships, what good does it sitting on a truck do anyone? As a consumer, hell, as someone working game retail, all I care about in terms of dates is the one on which is shows up.
Having said that, I don't like one day a week for everything. Nobody has to go to the mall 3-4 times a week to buy every game they "need", just head out on Thursday or something and get it all in a go.
I also don't think slaving all the game companies together into one release setup is a good idea either. Why is it at Gamestop/EB before Best Buy/Walmart? Because GS/EB pay extra shipping to get it there. BB/Walmart could do the exact same thing if they wanted but they don't. Idiot regulations tying all retailers together so brain-dead customers don't get "confused" won't help anyone. I think it's a bad idea for the video industry and I'm glad the gaming industry doesn't do it.
What? Why? Why would we want the gaming industry to be like them, anyway?Quote:

Because the gaming industry should be professional, and large entertainment industries in this country all have a set day in which all their products come out. The music industry has Tuesday, and the movie industry has Tuesday and Friday.Quote:

The mess the gaming industry has now, where games ship on a Tuesday, sometimes come in at night in some places if the manager is willing to pick them up but more often comes in on Wednesday, maybe, is a disaster and just amateurish garbage. Id expect this sort of shit from the model train industry or something but not an 8 billion dollar industry with double-digit growth rates.
It doesnt have to be Tuesday. But it needs to be a certain, set date that people can count on.
I can't even explain to people that never did it how hard it is to try and explain to a customer why the game isn't there the day it was supposed to be. They don't like to listen, and it just makes the store and it's employees look like they have no idea how to run a buisness.Quote:
