Okay, the thing about the players is that nobody in their right mind would care about them. Making 100,000 dollars a year for 35 years you'd only make around 3.5 million in your lifetime, minus pention and whatever. These players are complaining because they will have to make that in a year! Don't expect sympathy from anybody. Their major complaint is that they were told they could have 8 million, and now the owners are going back on their word, but if you look at the NHLs business strategy, you can easily see that with no huge TV deal (In the States) and fledgling exposure there's no way to stay afloat with that kind of cash floating out of the companies pockets.
Nobody's asking them to give up being millionaires... people are asking them to stop being pussies and make a little less so they can, in the long term, make a lot more. Oh and 100,000 in 35 years is enough to hold a family of 6 comfortably. It's sick how greedy some people get.
I could understand if this was NBA or NFL where the owners make shit loads because the sport is so widely loved, but hockey in America isn't as respectable as those sports, so you've got to either liven up the game or cut some money. Raising ticket prices isn't an option for any teams not in Detroit, Toronto, or New York, where the things sell out because there's so much population or there's a high percentage of hardcore, diehard fans (Detroit).

The NHL would get alot more exposure if ABC were to pickup more than just the All-Star game. The All-Star game damned boring to watch, mainly because nothing goes on. There is no checking, and its mostly just showboating. The American crowd sees this and then decides that hockey is boring.
If only all regular season games were like the playoffs. :(
sucks all around but at least we have an OHL team here and i can finally watch them. the last 3 years ive been unable to because of my old job. now with better hours and the fact that i can get free tickets to every game it wont be so bad.
just one question. if players signed on for one year deals.....and say this lasts all year. are they free agents at the start of next season?
