I agree completely. Maybe I'll make a worthwhile post when I get home from work (because listing my complaints about GTA will likely take longer than I have time for right now).Quote:

There were a lot of JP games that I bought just to look at the box for a while (like Langrisser Tribute or that game that was just sound, no visuals and was made by the guy, what, Kenji Eno, who made D? Did he name himself after Brian Eno?) before I sold them, which was sort of dumb. I got back all of the money I spent on all of the dumb JP Saturn games I bought, though, so they weren't exactly terrible purchases. That whole Saturn collecting thing was stupid.
I bought a PS2 twice, and both times it was a waste of money - the best PS2 game I had was Contra PS2 or maybe VF Evolution, and Contra PS2 sucked.
Hah. I knew someone would say that. TFC is alot older than UT, so of course its going to have worse graphics. The best game to compare UT to is Quake3, which i already said. I still like Q3's designs even today. Buy yea, as far as personality and design of the characters, I would say like TFCs better than UT. I really really just do not like UT's look, thats all.Quote:
But TFC has good character animation/designs?
What I meant was that although the games were niche, the actual implementation of the magazine wasn't.Quote:

That is to say, I loved the games covered, but I had hoped that the articles about them were better written. That's not to say that the grammar or amusement-factor were lacking. But as I said earlier, they were really fluffy.
Let's take Sakura Taisen 3. The writeup in issue 1 talked about it in a very vague surface-level-y uninformative way. Yes, I already knew ST3 inside and out before the article, but I was pretty disappointed that the reviews and the 2 page article said very little about the multi-branching adventure game system, the mechanics of the strategy engine (that looks to have influenced BoF5:DQ), the multitude of mini-games, the extreme polish of everything about the game that made it a hit among its fans.
Being concise is a good trait in communication, but not at the cost of content. Not that other magazine publications are any better, but I guess I was pretty hopeful for GG.
Don't get me wrong. I paid for a subscription to GameGO and I don't feel as if I got ripped off by only getting 1 (and 3/4?) issues. I really liked their choice of topic material. But nevertheless, I do want to express my disappointment in the depth of the writing. Simply that.Quote:

Just a clarification request here- MarkRyan writes guides and only guides at IGN, right? He isn't employed to write reviews? If that's the case then so long as he can tell you how to get from point A to point B in his articles without saying how much it sucks to do so then why can't he rag on things here? At IGN he's a guide writer, here he's just a guy talking gaming. We can think he's nuts all we want but the "elitist game journalist" thing just doesn't work. If he gets a column over there talking about this then we can all jump down his throat, in the meantime his views on games and his work in the industry are seperate things.Quote:
Couldn't agree more. Is there anything that's more played out than elitist video game "journalism"?
Sorry Mark, I think you're nuts. Doom 3 on PC > than Doom 3 on X-box specifically because the mouse/keyboard (or in my case, trackball/keyboard) combo is so incredibly superior to the controller. True, the configuration options and continual need for upgrading for good performance suck, but the hi-resolution graphics and endless modability make up for a lot. But then that's just my opinion, and I'm an outcast in a world of Halo-lovers. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he write reviews HERE?Quote:

It seems wierd to support a game *that owes its entire existence* to the game he has problems with.
