Evil Dead remake (Update: News + Evil Dead 4 confirmed)

Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell are producing a remake of the original Evil Dead, but Rami's not directing and Campbell's not starring. Why bother?

Resident "Evil Dead" fanatic is not pleased with this news.

WTF! Evil Dead 2 wasn't a good enough remake?

I suppose this is Raimi's way of getting all the rabid "we want another Ash movie!!" fans off his back while introducing a fresh actor to play the part for future movies (Campbell isn't getting any younger).

Nonetheless, I sense nothing but bad things will come of this, and I can only assume this flick will be on par with the cable remake of the Shining (Not shabby, but nowhere near as great as the original).

This news is unbelievable.

Well the article didn't rule out Ash being Bruce Campbell, but I don't see them making him look like a college student.

But there's a ton of people who won't know about Evil Dead, and will be seeing this movie for the first time, thereby gaining new fans negating the old ones.

Exactly, same with Harrison Ford and Indiana Jones. It may have worked for the 007 movies, but these characters were great because of the actors playing them, not the other way around. I shudder to think who they'd get to fill Ash's shoes (Freddie Prinze Jr.? :yuck: Jake Glyllenhahahahaha...no.)

This would be the best option. The next best thing would be to have an R-Rated animated series (done by McFarlane ala the HBO Spawn series) with Bruce doing vocal work.

And whenever I ask anyone if they've ever seen Evil Dead they won't even know there was an original.

Bruce Campbells not that old, but yeah, he's no student.

And unless he's starring in this movie, this is a terrible idea.
