I bought a nice sweater there yesterday that was marked down to $30 and I almost got a nice turtle neck but then remembered that my neck isn't very large so I look silly in them, especially in proportion to my giant head.

That's why you wear brown cords with a blazer and a striped or solid coloured top and open collar. Traditional suits are bad if they're not made of good material or contain a good colour scheme.

As a rule you're allowed 2 on your pants (one left, one right). I have no pleated pants.

I need a pair of brown cords actually, I wear a brown cord blazer all the goddamn time.

The only people that are worse are the kids who are all like, "Yes, I drove all the way to Orlando (or wherever) to get this Hollister shirt", while Hollister looks to be the same exact thing as AE and A&F.

The polo shirt is worn by every frat-fuck at my school. They are the following:

Polo shirt, jeans, Baseball hat (usually Boston hats now), Livestrong bracelet (hate those things), skateboard shoes, and short hair.

It's like they come out of a machine.

I have seen pleated cords. I like corduroys, actually. Traditional suits are bad if they aren't made entirely of wool, cotton, silk, or linen, sure, but there's nothing wrong with it in general, although you can't really walk around in a suit without looking strange. A lot of people around here are wearing blazers now. I wear a navy blazer a lot. Jackets in general are pretty good. You look respectable, you're comfortable.

If you want a suit, and you don't want to spend money, you are much better off going onto EBay and trying to find a NWT suit in your size (you will need to get a tailor to tell you your size first). You can go onto ebay, search for a maker like "Hickey Freeman", and wait for something in your size to come up - eventually, you will be able to buy a suit for about $300 that will be much better than anything anyone you know will have (a suit worth $1500). Similar suits for $200-$300 that you will find at a retail store will be of lower quality.

I bought my cords as an essential for my graphic design work. It's impossible to compete in business if you look like a t-shirt and jeans techie all the time. Looking good is awesome.

Yeah, I like it too. I wonder sometimes about a guy like Steve McQueen or something, who did a good job of looking like a badass without looking disrespectable.

I think trying to dress well is a good way of showing respect for yourself and for other people. Or, hell, trying to look cool is a good way to disrespect people.

You can dress alright if you don't want to dress as a "preppy", either, though. Check out levi's vintage, rogan nyc, adidas, nike's skateboarding stuff, and then buy from those stores or vintage stuff off of EBay.
