Microsoft needs to take a lesson from NBC
Taken straight from an article about how NBC has been profitable during a industry-wide slump:
Quote:
Ever since GE acquired NBC from RCA in 1986, pundits have said NBC needs to do like its rivals and forge alliances with other media interests. But it hasn’t happened. At GE, the TV operation is just a division alongside aircraft engines and lightbulbs, and like them, its purpose is to make money.
“Our expectation is to make several hundred million dollars, and we treat this as a business,” Mr. Sassa says. “It is not, ‘Get to first place, and we don’t care what you spent.’ It’s ‘Get to first place and, by the way, keep the money coming.’"
