Stretch Panic did indeed suck, and it was crazy that ECM pimped it as hard as he did in GG.
Normally a diff-bashing session can be loads of fun, but I don't know why everyone's flipping out about this one little comment and pulling the thread off track. Seriously, grow up little bitches.
I constantly wonder what's so great about Gaming-Age that they keep going there. It's like some super secret elite forum club that I don't have any access to, I even tried to kind of flame them with an email (which didn't help matters but felt satisfying) to see why registration is such a bitch.Quote:

Personally Gamefan was an awesome magazine and website when it was online. I bought some of the "early days" stuff when Dave Halverson was around but I barely knew their real names aside from their avatars and would soon find out his notoriety these days. I did frequent Kevin Deselms website everyso often after the website went down, it still had that GFO design that rings with nostalgia. Kevin your site was pretty damn cool, I especially liked the in-depth tech stuff like the DMC resolution stuff with the tv's and your opinions on certain games.
The mag really exploded in really hardcore and awesome attitude when ECM and the new crew were around although I kind of missed that trademark Monitor dude they had in those comics. I loved their avatars and when they made fun of eachother like ECM or someone cracking on Eggo as a wife stealer and one of them (Fury perhaps?) having bad skillz in certain games. The magazine was just fun and the game coverage was excellent even if they didn't have the best pics of the games themselves, it read like a magazine version of these forums a bit and you can see the influence the magazine had upon us with bahn creating the site and the Gamego! people following up on the magazine after Gamefan's death as well as the great Nick for keeping this place alive.
Alot of people still have fond memories of the #gf_tavern, I barely go there anymore myself since it's full of lurkers and only a few people go nowadays in that IRC channel. Only Knight, Randerson, Bonuskun, jdmackes, Red_Venom and good old Ant Chau a.k.a Dangohead are worth talking to if some of you remember them.
I'm hoping that I'll be able to reach him through IRC one of these days and point him towards this great thread. Mad props for this Shidoshi.
no no no, you see stretch panic was a peace of shit game. But two things need to be remembered
1. That doesn't really matter because there would be no game mags if they all went under for giving good reviews to a few shitty games.
and
2. Diff needs to let go of any anger he has for buying shitty games that gamefan or TNL said were good. Maybe the first 1 or 2 games, ok, he has a right to be unhappy. BUT at a certain point a guy has to grow some balls and use his own discretion, especially if he is dealing with reviewers he knows do not agree with him.

Well the thing with GG! was that everyone knew that they went for a market that just wasn't ready for the magazine. They covered all the "little guy" games some which were really good at the time like Record of Lodoss War and Heavy Metal and they gave a bit of coverage to the mainstream stuff.
Most noticeable was when ECM harped on GT3 saying it was boring stuff with pretty graphics and I can't say I disagree with him but I fondly remember EvilMog going apeshit over that one :lol:
I did see the pdf of the second issue I thought that it would have been great, the magazine had awesome design but the content just wasn't well suited for the time. I kind of ask myself "What if the magazine was still out today and they covered mainstream stuff more", I figure we'd see some awesome Patrick Spaziente covers of games with the usual opinions but the TNL boards kind of pick up the slack for that.
Eh, it shouldn't really be that hard to get in. Getting into the TNL forums aren't that much of a problem compared to the way they set stuff up at GA.Quote:

Here's where I put my ignorance blinders on as yours is radiating dangerously out of control. Did it ever occur to you that a fledgling magazine, such as GameGO!, had serious difficulty getting beta software to review for upcoming issues? As I've said before, I think the viewpoint expressed on Stretch Panic was genuine but I remember what a struggle Hoshigami was for us because it wasn't nearly as good as we had hoped. Equally, I give Sega credit for allowing us to preview games (AFO, Bomberman, etc...) but very few companies were cooperative which leads to what the magazine presented on the cover. I'm sure that if the magazine had the chance to grow and get more established our covers would've changed to reflect what we really thought might've deserved it.
