I ordered Batman: The Killing Joke. I read up on Preacher, I think that will be the next one I get. It looks very Dark Tower.
EDIT:Heh, I just ordered Preacher Volume 1. Thanks for all the recommendations!

I disagree, in fact I think it's the weakest of what's been coming out lately. The Marvel Knights Spidey TPB, Down Among the Dead Men, was absolutely fantasic (except for that damn 'to be continued'), as have been Humberto Ramos' Spectacular Spider Man and John Romita's Amazing Spider-man runs. The Sins Past storyline that's going on in the monthly currently is awesome stuff, too, that'll be one to get in TPB form.Quote:

I highly recommend Top Ten from Alan Moore. Its easily readable by anyone, but if you've been reading comics for any amount of time, there are literally tons of in jokes and easter eggs in almost every panel.
This is the first thing that came to my mind.Quote:

There are no throw-away characters or panels.Quote:

To borrow the boxing cliche, Ultimate Spiderman is, panel-for-panel, the best superhero TPB out today.
Marvel Knights Spidey has excellent artwork, but the writing is a load of shit. Between garbage like MK Spidey, Wanted, and Trouble, Mark Millar should be fucked in the ass with lobsters. However, he occasionally pulls off something really great, like Superman: Red Son. It's a hassle to sift through the filth to find the good stuff.
The Straczynski/Romita Jr. run of Amazing Spider-Man is reccommended-- the first couple graphic novels should be Coming Home, Revelations, Until the Stars Turn Cold, and The Life and Death of Spiders.
Sleeper and Y - The Last Man are probably the best of the currently running series.
Good girl. Let me know what you think.Quote:

Yep definitely get this. This is Marvel's Ultimate line of the Avengers starting with the originals Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Wasp, Giant Man and the Hulk. The spin is, everything is played up with psuedo realism and feels like a movie in visuals and storytelling.Quote:

Volume 2 issue #1 recently came out and here's a preview for that if you want a gander. It's kind of like a sequel movie http://www.popcultureshock.com/reviews.php?id=3571
What's weak about Ultimate Spiderman? I agree with The Meach and think it's the freshest, best portrayal of Spiderman and Peter Parker in a long time including JMS's. The books are perfect since it's the beginning's of Ultimate Spiderman and they come in easily available volumes. There's also an air of unpredictability since it's not mainstream Marvel.Quote:

Think of Millar's Spiderman as Batman's "Hush" but wait out for the final issue(s) to cast final run judgement. Alot of comic fans are crying foul over "Sins Past" because they thought it soiled the Gwen Stacy character for her to do something so out of character. I happen to like the arc that JMS did and his Spiderman run altogether.
Bendis/Maleev's Daredevil runs are indeed incredibly good. It's surprisingly devoid of superheroics and more like a 'in the day of the life of Matt Murdock'. When there are superheroics it's pretty good, I just don't think action is one of Maleev's strong suits but his stuff is moody and great. I especially loved the panel where a guy is sleeping with his wife one night and he wakes up to see Daredevil just staring out through his window which looked fucking creepy and a great use for the character.
Supreme Power is awesome. It's a twisted Marvel take on the JLA with the Squadron Supreme characters. It's in a self contained universe so don't expect any Marvel stars in it and it makes the story much better. There's some crazy shit in there and JMS really kicks ass in this. Buy the first trade out now.
For the non Marvel stuff I read The Watchmen last summer and I think it's one of comic's greatest masterpieces. Everyone should check it out since it's so layered with nuance and character pieces as well as making for a great detective type mystery story.
I plan on getting some Sin City stuff since the movie has me jazzed, Miracleman whenever Marvel finally puts out the old trade, and I still need to track down those Hellboy TPB's. BTW can anyone tell me the premise of the Sandman stuff?
Sandman is a little hard to explain. There's this huge long story arc that spans the entire series. That not the main point of the book though, it's just something to keep in mind. Also keep in mind that every bit of mythology/religion from all over the world exists in the Sandman universe. Sandmans own family consists of personifications of Death, Desire, Delirium and a few others.
There's nothing superhero about it.
I think If I had to summarize what Sandman was about, I'd say it was the summation of our entire world culture applied to modern day living. Perhaps I'm a little off but It's been years since I've read them.
Will, if you live in Manhattan, you can borrow them all from the library.
Also, a lot of issues are stand alone. I wish I had a few on hand to show you.
Heh well it doesn't have to be superhero for me to enjoy it, I just happen to love Superhero stuff but I'm always open to new stuff. It just kinda seems that since Sandman ran so long I might not catch up to all the books if there are alot of them.Quote:
