Recommend me some graphic novels!

If any retcon needs to be retconned, it'd be the whole bone-claws thing. Origin looked beautiful, but was, um, less than compelling, IMO. I never understood how someone who was in the Canadian Army and fought in WWII would have never had a physical with X-rays (which was, I believe, standard op for all soldiers), that would have, y'know, shown that Logan had bone claws. But that makes too much sense, I guess. Speaking of Origin, if anyone is looking to pick up Near Mint first prints of the series, I can hook you up.

Back to the thread subject: I was lucky enough to get The Golden Age, The Avengers: Kree-Skrull War, Batman: Son of the Demon, JLA: Tower of Babel, and Daredevil Essentials Vol1 for Christmas. Been enjoying them all. :)

The original Eastman and Laird TMNT graphic novels rule. TMNT are not human-loving goofy party guys, they are pissed off freaks with some serious tempers. The graphic novels portray them they way they were meant to be, not watered down for the kids.

Yeah, those are excellent. I love the part where they're staying in a broken down house in the woods.

There are plenty of good recommendations already in here, and I just skimmed it so sorry if these have already been mentioned.

The original Madman graphic novel by Mike Allred and at least the first two SCUD collections by Rob Scrabb (I think there are four in total) are two of the best I've ever come across.

There's a smaller, independent comic called Thieves and Kings that has a few collections out too, that I really like. The guy who makes it seems to do everything himself, and it's a really ambitious fantasy story, but he does a great job of getting it all through for the most part.

The Nausicaa manga looks amazing from what I've seen too, but I haven't read it yet.

I've read it, and yeah it's really good.

I know there was a suggestion of "no manga" for graphic novels, but I just finished reading all the volumes of Akira that Dark Horse put out. Simply amazing. The movie does not do the story justice.

It's true. I think there was a PC game too. Anyway, those don't matter because the comic was great. Really unique art style, totally original and insane story and action...probably the only great thing to come out of Milwaukee within anyone's memory.

And as for the manga thing, it's the same situation as anime. There's tons of crap/fluff, but there are still real masterpieces that shouldn't be overlooked. Many more than I'm aware of I'm sure.
