Paintings and Silkscreens

Here we have my collection of work from last semester.

First are my four best pieces from painting. My teacher, Stanley Whitney, got his masters at yale and has been inducted to the Gugenheim, so needless to say he's friggin' brilliant and expected a whole lot from my class.

They're in this order:

Plant in Corner - 2.5'x3.5' oil on canvas

Self Portait - 3'x4.5' oil on canvas

The Cotton Exchange - 3'x4' oil on canvas (copy of Degas original, that was the assignment, i'm not a fraud :rolleyes: )

Colorful Landscape - 3.5'x4.5' oil on canvas

The pictures really don't do the paintings justice, but it's the best I can do.

Next are my silkscreen prints. It was my first time working with the medium and I really enjoyed it and look foward to printing more in the future.

The first three were (obviously) done using the same screen using photo-emulsion while the last was done with a drawing fluid screen (not that hardly anyone here knows the difference ;) )

Nothing to do with your post, but I'm looking at your av and just got through watching the first 2/3 of the Rambo trilogy on DVD. Good stuff.

Those are very nice, I really like "The Cotton Exchange."

"Self Portrait" kind of bothers me, because of the angles. The background is completely straight, while the chair looks as if it's tipping over and the ceiling is inclined (if it really was, I apologize).

I've always wanted to try doing silkscreens, but it seems expensive.

Awesome work, I really like the Degas piece.

I should probably say that I actually really don't like that self-portrait, at least the actual figure and surroundings, the only notable thing about it is the color and the way I applied the paint.

Oh and never say the whole "well if it really did look like that, sorry" thing. If it looks wrong, it's wrong :)

I really dig that last silkscreen. The figure in the bottom left is really expressive. It would make good album cover art.

The Cotton Exchange is really cool, but is that guy on the bottom left supposed to be wearing a top hat? It's really disproportionately large and doesn't look 3D. Throws off the whole painting because of that being in such a prominent foreground spot.

I like the last one too. really cool how the one guy's body is all bubbly. Reminds me of floating in the middle of the ocean without care

Slick stuff Firstbloood, that last silk screen is really awesome. I like the three previous as well, not sure exactly what it is however.

Nice stuff man, I really dig the Silkscreens. Especially the last one, the design work on the bubbles reminds me of old Vienna succession posters.

I haven't posted any of my work in ages. Need to fix that soon.
