I'll use the 16-bit days as an example. Then, we had tons of creative, unlicensed sports games coming out. Ironically, EA's Mutant League games were the highlight of this, and they complimented their licensed games well. If you didn't care about licenses, like myself, you could just go with these games and have a lot of fun, with none of the needless BS in the licensed games. The unlicensed stuff worked hand-in-hand with the licensed games. Now, due to EA's greed, that won't be the case, at least for football. We all, as consumers, get to suffer thanks to their actions, as does the industry as a whole, which EA doesn't give a shit about.
