Wasn't God of War about 6-8 hours long? That isn't enough to warrant a $50 purchase let alone a $600 system.
You're completely ignoring the obvious. Sony can't put it on the PS3. They don't have the systems to use this as a system seller. The last estimates I saw said Sony only shipped 140,000 systems to North America, which is where God of War will have its biggest audience. By March, when it's supposed to be released, they might have hit 500,000 systems, which is a nice number, but its still not good enough. Sony doesn't need to build it's brand anymore. Everyone knows who they are. So they can wait until they are ready to launch a system seller. Namely, when they can meet the demand.
And yes, you're right, the PS3 and Wii are now out, so therefore the next generation has begun. But that doesn't mean all those millions and millions of ps2s have been thrown out. There hasn't been enough time, and by the time the game hits there still won't have been enough time. Sony will still make more money, and don't fool yourself money is the primary concern for Sony right now, not which generation they are making it off of, by releasing it on the PS2.
The current generation is over a year-old. The party doesn't wait for the unfashionably late to arrive.
I can't imagine many people buying a PS3 to play PS2 games. And putting a system selling title on a system nobody's able to actually sell seems like a bigger waste to meQuote:
The past-gen is done, and releasing a likely sure-fire hit title like GoW 2 on the PS2 at this stage of the console's life when you have a PS3 you need to succeed would be an utter waste of a system selling title.
I doubt Sony would release the exact same PS2 version of GoW2 on PS3. It would not be the same GoW2 scheduled to come out in Feb '07 (or whenever it's ETA is). Probably the same thing that happened with TP would happen here, except Sony would ensure that GoW 2 is optimized to be a true next-gen title rather than a spiced up PS2 port.
If you put a system selling title on a system you really need to sell, that certainly is better than putting it on a system that needs no help selling and one that time has passed by.
Exactly. Sony is not going to tailor their strategy to cater to consumers who are so non-influential that they're buying PS2's six years after its launch and at the end of the console's life. Those aren't the consumers that will make or break you in the market; they're the ones who come in after the dust has already settled.
Who the hell is talking about selling PS2s? Nobody. The game is what Sony wants to sell. But anyway, whatever, you're convinced that Sony needs to waste God of War 2 on the PS3 with a ported/remade version of the PS2 game in a vain attempt to sell systems that Sony can't possibly make.
If you're saying they should release the remake a year from now or whenever the PS3 version would be ready, then that's an even bigger mistake, because then people will be saying why would I buy that when I've already played the PS2 version months ago. They might as well do what they are probably doing anyway, which is making money with the PS2 version and then continuing the story with God of War 3 on the PS3 in 2 years or whenever.
I ask for help, and you idiots turn this thread into yet another next-gen cockfight.
Thanks for nothing, you cunts.
(except for MarkRyan and Raz0r)
Oh please. Theres nothing here about Wii or 360 being better etc. It's about where the sequel should have landed, on the PS2 or 3. Go piss and moan someplace else. And besides, you got your help. What more do you want?
