I was thinking of doing a similar thing in a year or two, except I was thinking of going to the opposite side of the planet.

I mean, you're lucky enough to have someone to fall back on in this case, so you really have nothing to lose, and it doesn't sound like you really want to stay where you are anyway. I moved a year ago and it's been great.
Good point there, if nothing works the way it should, your parents will be there with open arms, and rent-free housing.

Think about this, what have you got to lose? Nothing. Go to Vegas, figure some shit out, and get on with life.
