That and umm....Mobile Light Force 2 doesn't look as good as most 32 bit 2D shmups.
The PS2 Namco Museum had the remixes, which I love. That puts it above the PS1 revs.
Soul Reaver is the only game I remember seeing and thinking it had to be next-generation. It still stands up well.
look at that. ugly.

how the crap am i supposed to play this vs. the clean looking older games? 1/2 the time i can't even tell i'm being shot at.
ourier Crisis looks better.
Oh, we've forgot Vib Ribbon
I was initially confused by its 'vectrex' vectorial look but I still like it a lot. Those are games like Katamary or Rez, they have a look that fits the game, you can make them look better, anti-aliased and HiRes but I am not sure if they need it...
That much I agree with. Sometimes your enemy's shots don't stand out as much as they could (especially when you're firing back and their bullets are close in color to your own). Nothing that one can't get used to, though...Quote:

I was thinking about this topic the other day. After playing Metal Gear Solid 3, I decided to play Metal Gear Solid VR missions because I picked it up for like 4 bucks. I could not get over how shitty it looked. It was even worse on my widescreen TV. Thank God I found Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance for cheap at Blockbusters. For some reason I am way more forgiving with old sprite based games. Old 3D just looks so horrible.
That's because the game has excellent artistic style and design. I think Metal Gear Solid pulls this off, as well.Quote:

If developers attempted to push the envelope with 2D like they have with 3D, we'd all would be talking about how shitty Castlevania: SOTN looks by today's standards instead of praising it.
