Just picked up Strider 2 today. The game looks pretty cool, in an old school sort. The 2-D sprites with 3-D backdrops, looks pretty good.

I never played the game until about a year ago. I was amazed at how great it was... but crawling around, I was aghast at how huge the pixels were. It wasn't enough to make me stop playing, but I considered jumping straight to MGS2.Quote:

Could you imagine if they made a platformer with Guilty Gear quality high-res sprites and fluid animation? I think I would poop my pants.Quote:

Layer Section holds up fairly good on Saturn. Although there is some pixelation, the scaling effects and line-scrolling are quite ace.
The same can be said about Soukyugurentai in general- a game that was quite clearly influenced by LS. Furthermore, the water level's transparencies actually look damn hot- who said the Saturn can't do some decent transparency?

Playing them today is like running Doom 3 at 320x240 on a Voodoo2. Its bad.

I can't find any big screens, but those'll do.
Off the top of my head, I think Klonoa, RayStorm, Grandia, G. Darius and Metal Slug X hold up well on PSOne. I didn't see anyone mention these ones, and while I admit they have glaring limitations, they also were colorful and different enough to still catch my eye today. I will say that I've been playing them via ePSXe for the last year or so. It's been a while since I played the Saturn, but I played the PC demo of Panzer Dragoon a while back, and though pop-up is heavy, the water effect is still cool, and again, just design in general is cool enough that I can still look at it and see it's beauty.
I actually think Model 2 games have held up surprisingly well. Then again, that VooDoo 2 Doom 3 doesn't look too bad to me, either, so I might just be mental/oldschool like that.
The games that hold up the best are also some of my favorites from the system. Silent Bomber, Wipeout 3 Special Edition (fixes many of the issues sethsez mentioned), Ghost in the Shell, Einhander, Vagrant Story, Valkyrie Profile, Metal Gear Solid, Chrono Cross, Omega Boost, Elemental Gearbolt and for a game I don't care for, CTR looks great for PSX.
Saturn? Well, compared to Playstation, not much. Radiant Silvergun does look great though, numerous other 2D games too. The system could do 3D and pretty well for the time, but it seldom did. I still like the look of Nights and Sonic R did in fact look good for its time. I haven't played it in a long time so it may look like total crap now.
I realize I've probably retreaded over everything already said here.
I liked the rendered 3-d sprites in Shining: The Holy Ark.
