Also, to all of you asking why he should want her dead instead of giving her over to the parents, it was BECAUSE SHE TOLD HIM TO. Whether or not you believe she said that, he does, and no offer of money (someone already offered him 10 million to turn her over to the parents, he refused) will dissuade him. How many of you would fight like hell to see your loved one's last wishes honored, no matter how much their family fought you over it? I think that's one of the issues here that's been completely glossed over by the conservative talking heads.

And before you say, "Well she didn't put down her wishes in a Living Will." No shit sherlock, how many of you have your wishes either way put down in a Living Will? Probably few to none that's probably because no one 'expects' to be a vegetable anytime soon.

The only harm I can see it doing is that it would be very hard for the husband to finish grieving for her (what with her only half dead and all), which is what I personally think the husband wants her dead for, which while selfish, is completely understandable. And with regard to the "she is a vegetable"... well according to her parents shes really not, they have a video of her eyes following a balloon that they wave slowly in front of her. They claim that she still has some cognitive ability because of this, and some people on the other side, like her parents and former-doctors in Congress claim they have medical evidence that future technological advancements could conceivably save her, so we have no business killing her now because some far-fetched advancement nobody knows about now might come along in the next two decades and save her.

You are acting just like her parents now. It does not matter if he has been with another woman for 10 years, because he clearly believes he is in the right and he is working to make sure her wishes get fulfilled. Like I said in the old thread, her husband claims that she said she wanted to die if something happened, and her parents claim that she never would say that. Yea, like a wife will tell her parents everything she tells her husband! Theres also discussions husbands and wives have, Im sure, about moving on if something happens to the other. THESE ARE NOT WEIRD HUSBAND AND WIFE CONVERSATIONS, PEOPLE!

So? He's still involved enough after 14 years that I think it's pretty obvious that he still cares about her.

It's fucking outrageous that congress is getting anywhere near this. The level to which our country is fucked up right now is evidenced by the fact that our government believes itself righteous enough to step in on this and the fact that more people aren't really pissed and worried about it.

I have those sort of conversations with my girlfriend. They are most certainly not out of place or uncommon. I've never, to this day, discussed anything about what would happen if I died with my parents.

Perhaps matters like Power of Attorney, divorce, estate planning, financial security, what happens if I become a vegetable, why did Kano ban IP, and just death in general are uncomfortable conversations for folks who think that someone's "eternal soul" can be "tainted." Big, scary topics for people who need security blankies.
