The deal with widescreen TV's is that widescreen stuff, the stuff of real quality--HDTV, DVD's, newer games, etc., are typically in widescreen. So even if say... 30% of your viewing time is spend with widescreen stuff, why cater to the lowest common denominator? Watching stretched material isn't really that bad. I use satellite, and most of the stuff looks like compressed crap anyways (through s-video), so there's no reason to care much about a little stretching here and there.
