Apparently you can wash and dry your PS2 memory cards

Threw in a load of wash last night. This morning when removing it from the dryer I discovered one of my PS2 memory cards- guess I had thrown it in the pocket of my cargo pants and had forgotten about it. Anyway, I was sure all my saves were screwed but I tested it out and it's fine- all the saves are still there and the ones that I tested out work with no problems. :sweat:

So, should I just forget about it and consider myself lucky or do you think I should be on the safe side and get a new card and transfer my saves?

I would get a new card just to be safe, because I've lost save games before and it REALLY sucks. But I think you're OK - if it were still wet inside the case when you plugged it into the PS2 thats where the problems would have been.

When I was buying a lot of JAMMA boards, I came across stories all the time of people actually putting them in the dish washer (without soap) to clean them.

Seems that as long as you let them dry, there is no harm done.

I sure as hell won't try it though.

It's ironic that a Viewtiful Joe 2 demo is more deadly to your memory card than the spin cycle.

I heard the same thing one time when I had a stack of MVS carts that my cat pissed on. I didn't use that method to clean them though. Heh.

Any piece of electronic as long as it doesnt have a source of energy running through it, will remain unharmed by water. It all just evaporates off, and your stuff is as good as new. You're only danger is of other things (soap) drying on the circuits, or if you run a current through them while they still have some water.

I'm just suprised that the one-two punch of churning soapy water/spinning hot dryer didn't do any damage. Like I said, I'm lucky.

I'll take my chances and hold onto the original card. I'm sure if something was wrong it'd show up right away.

Actually it wont. I deal with cellphones that get wet all the time. The thing is, corrision can occur, and it can take time to do damage. Even a trip through the dryer wont get all the liquid out from inside the plastic...
