But it's something that takes time and effort to impliment properly. Which both are what Sony severely lacked in implimenting their previous online structure. It's definately possible that they will have a good online gaming system worked out, but it definately won't hold a candle to Xbox Live.

I think that a big part of it is expertise. You can hire smart people to build a network but experience is a big part of it. Microsoft has been running IGZ since 1996... they know what people want in an online service. Sony's been running Station, but it blows.

Also, it seems to me that Microsoft's entire perception with 360 is turning away from the people connecting to an online server to the online service connecting people. Everything is revolving around the community, almost like Friendster but for game dorks. Thats an advanced, subtle way to look at online gaming and I doubt Sony or Nintendo could match it (though Im sure they can whip up an adequate Live 1 clone). But I could be wrong.

Most Sony gamers are casuals and play Madden and Tekken ... why wouldn't they embrace online play?

I hope Sony does emulate XBL ... then charge 5 dollars less. The irony of stealing an idea verbatim from Microsoft, and then using it to hurt thier bottom line is sweet justice.

Just from the naked eye, what can typically be observed is that you sit around, play games, blah blah, say, "old games still looked fine!" but then you go back and play them and realize theyre fucking disgusting to look at. The leap in graphics from each generation to the next has been and will be smaller than the previous jump.

This is the ONLY point I've been trying to make. Stop trying to make it sound as though i've been predicting a roadblock of some sort.

Of course older games look like shit.. You know what the standard "graph approaching an asymptote" looks like.. The first few increases are enormous, but the increases steadily decrease.
I'm not saying we're anywhere remotely close to the limit, i'm just taking note that the introduction of each new generation brings a little less "shock and awe" than that of the last.
