In many southern communities, religion is a cultural thing. It is THE culture. Simple minds in groups fear those things that might change the group. They seek to destroy them, remove them, etc, etc. Their voting reflects this. There is no religious reason for dry counties. There however is physiological ones. It is a basic tribe/cult mind set

Drinking beer may not be a full on sin in the bible, but many southern christens consider it to be one. Its more a traditional sin, that goes with the culture. Much in the same way as keeping your hair cut short and shaving every day, despite the fact that many believe that Jesus had a beard and long hair, and despite the fact that the old testament told men to not shave their beards., is wrong. Southern Christians consider quite a few things to be wrong, that are actually ok in the bible.

Thanks for your pop sociology there professor, but there IS religious reasoning behind dry counties. Religion is the impetus for it, it is the platform, and it is the organizing entity for the political power to enact and enforce the legistlation.

There is nothing in the bible saying that you cannot drink booze. There is nothing in the Bible saying that one should force others to abide by the religion of the Bible. There is nothing in the bible saying that the guidelines of the bible should be put into law. The dry counties are not there because of the religion but because of a simple cultural mind set, that just so happens to have a code of conduct that barrows from the Christian religion and passed down roman/Christian ethics.

When people overstep what the Bible tells them to do it is no longer a religious issue but a cultural one. They do that when they seek to put these things into law.

Yeah, that's pretty much bullshit. There's no reason that you shouldn't be allowed to have alchohal in the privacy of your own home. I understand age laws (though I think for cigarettes and alcohal it should be 17...if you're old enough to die for your country you should be old enough to do whatever has an age restriction) but a dry county? That's ridiculous and I suppose there's not much you can do about it.
