In many southern communities, religion is a cultural thing. It is THE culture. Simple minds in groups fear those things that might change the group. They seek to destroy them, remove them, etc, etc. Their voting reflects this. There is no religious reason for dry counties. There however is physiological ones. Drinking beer may not be a full on sin in the bible, but many southern christens consider it to be one. Its more a traditional sin, that goes with the culture. Much in the same way as keeping your hair cut short and shaving every day, despite the fact that many believe that Jesus had a beard and long hair, and despite the fact that the old testament told men to not shave their beards., is wrong. Southern Christians consider quite a few things to be wrong, that are actually ok in the bible.
