Bargain/Budget Games Thread.

OK, this thread is all about games for dead systems that are overlooked, and games that are super cheap and super good on current or almost current systems.

PS1:

Top Shop - If you own a PS1 or PS2 or are planning on buying a PS3 you really should own this game. It was released at $20 and can now be found for much much less. I got mine for $5 at Best Buy. At agetec's site for $9.99

Tall Infinity - For info go here. I thought this game was a steal. Can be found for under $10 a bunch of places, though it is no longer even shown on Agetec's site.

Xbox:

Jet Set Radio Future / JSRF Sega GT Combo - Sega GT is pretty take it or leave it. It is a fun Gran Turismo clone but the game is pretty meh through and through. Consider it a freebie for picking up the very sleek JSRF Sega GT Combo (or just get the standalone JSRF). Yes, it is different than JGR/JSR, and yes it is style over substance. What you should know is that this game has one of the greatest soudtracks ever, and looks beautiful. The art direction is amazing and the game is fun. You can find this game for so cheap and it is definitely worth it. I have seen the combo for as little as 2.99 at EB because everybody who got one with their system when it was a pack-in sold it back that weekend.

I recently picked up the very underrated Twisted Metal Small Brawl from Best Buy for only ten bucks, and it didn't even have a stupid Greatest Hits label on it.

Obviously this game isn't very old(2001), but it was certainly dead before it even came out.

I was quite surprised by Transformers. I fully expected it to be totally mediocre, but was surprised by the amount of subtle depth to it. It's a whole lot of 'splosions and stuff, but as you earn more and more power-ups (mini-cons) you'll get into some strategizing and tactical combat. A very good game, and worth more than the $20 it costs at most retail places.

EDIT: Oh yes, one of the coolest boss fights ever versus the 200 foot tall Tidal Wave.

Actually, Top Shop came out at $10. There were some places that were charging more, but those places were ripping people off.

Wow, Tall Infinity looks like a clone of Tower of the Ancients.

Good listing of stuff so far, I'd add Speedball 2100 for the Playstation to that list. Spin Jam is a decent little budget game as well, as is Super Bubble Pop. Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, Katamari Damacy, and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (semi-bargain at $30) are also must-haves. [/b]Road Trip[/b] for PS2, Grand Theft Auto III andGrand Theft Auto Vice City are also great buys at the $10 or so they go for now.

Fantavision (ps2) - less than 5 dollars just about everywhere. Commander Regus and his Lost Planet Airmen would agree.

Timesplitters 2 (gc) - This is 10 bucks at ToysRus. I'll find out later tonight if it sucks or not. (the reviews I've read say it rocks ass)

Seek and Destroy (or any ChoroQ game) (ps2) interesting diversion. Military tanks and the like talk to each other and fight wars. Along the way you can customize them with more fire power and silly things like wings or floatation devices. It's a very bizzare game but for less than 10 dollars it's worth a look.

Any cartridge (nes/snes/gen) - Every cart that used to come out at 49.99 now costs 2-5 dollars. You can keep spending 50 dollars on one brand new shitty game or be smart and buy a bag-full of shitty games.

Beyond Good and Evil was going for as little as 8.99 while I was still working at EB.

If it still is, buy it. I know we've got threads about it somewhere, but it's what 3D Zelda games should've been.


And it's about time you bought Frequency. It's a lot better than Amplitude ya know.
