So let me get this straight.....I can say "I believe in God" just as long as I say "OMGJUSTKIDDINGKEKEKE".

What is the point of having some kind of Christianity/Judaism/Buhdhism/whatever without feeling that God in whatever form you believe in exists in real time? I will get up in the morning and pray to God. No matter what I pray, I will get an answer.

But I believe that God does act in peoples lives personaly. It just does not have to be a freakin light show. For example, you have heard stories about situations like people getting saved from fires or plane accidents or what have you. Now consider for a moment that maybe....just maybe God had altered the circumstances to make the situation come out to be a happy ending.

Now I am not saying that all situations like these have teh almighty hand o' Gawd all up in it.

Cause I have no proof of such a thing. And God does not like to brag about what he does all of the time.

However I do not think that God will sit on his ass and let us be all the time. I am a firm believer that we would have blown ourselves up already without a lil' help now and then. funfact, you also cannot disprove his claim with science or rationality either, by all the available evidence he had a disease and now he does not. unless you have contrary evidence, i dont see rationality or science having munay answers here, you can speculate about random natural healings, but you are speculating, not applying scientific method to prove them, as such your claims are no more scientificly valid than those that he makes.

There have been many people on this forum who post this very sentiment about religion, you notice we dont call them out and insult them. do i think they are wrong, yep, but ill leave the insulting and berating to the open minded athiest here. it takes a very special form of class for that. as for equating a person car-bombing israelies and a guy who thinks his disease was cured by god, you may want a bit more apt of a metaphore. if 7 had tried to justify violence with his religion, then he would have gotten shouted down by both sides, the theists and the nontheists, but he just said he had a fortunate happening in his life and attributed it to god.

Im saying that the US affords equal status to women under the law and yes this has CLEARLY benefitted society and the Middle East clearly treats women as inferior beings to men and horrible things arise from that - honor killings, gang rapes, forced lives of slavery and servitude, domestic violence, and so forth. These things go on daily. It may or may not be a cultural thing but the Koran also clouds the issue with contradictions so I dunno. But nobody is doing honor killings in the US and nobody is walking around caning women for showing a kneecap or some shit.

If you think that these laws are in place to "protect women", then you clearly also believe women are inferior just from the very fact that you think they need to be protected!

I cant find the book anywhere, I dont know if I got rid of it in my move out of college. But anyway, it simply takes blurbs out of the texts of the world's major religions. The chapter on Islam has the relevant quotes.

And yea, actually like I said I took a course in college on the history of religions, where I learned to look at religions from an objective and empathetic point of view. I learned the basic goals of each religion and how they work as well as a basic history of each. So I do have a framework for looking at religions, albeit crude, but more developed than one who just reads the internet and watches TV.

Anyway, one of the main points I took away from it is that each religion has a main goal of working to extinguish the destructive effects of the ego and to help people. Pretty much every religion works like this, including Islam. If Christians and Jews and Muslims all followed the spirit of their teachings it really would be heaven on Earth.

But people are imperfect, and religion is the people who worship and practice it. If the religion isnt helping but hurting people it needs to be changed. This is what happened to Christianity, with the Reformation. It changed because the Church was hurting people. It also needs to be changed now, Ive said that before on TNL.

by this your emplying that god is also imperfect because it is he who revealed the devine teachings through his books so whats the point of worshipping a god who is as imperfect as any human

on another note may be we should have a religious form where we can bash each others religion

Religion is like the ultimate game of telephone. Ever play that as a kid in class? The teacher would tell one kid something who would tell the other etc. and the last kid would then blurt it out. It never was exactly the same as what the teacher said.

Now replace the teacher with God and the first kid with the holy book and each kid down the line a generation of people. Even if the message is perfect the messengers are not, so the messengers need to work to make sure their work is good and helpful and keeping with the spirit of the original message.

But when they are not keeping with that spirit it all breaks down. This is what happens when a guy chops off someone's head in the name of God or a church figure molests children or what not.

see here is where islam differs ,in islam the messengers of Allah are immune from making mistakes in delievering the devine teachings , what's striking is that Islam and christianity have quite a few things in common such as stories of previous messengers like Noah's arch (i hope i spelled it right)

its pointless to argue about religion because if you have a strong faith then nothing would change your belief and in the end all religions cant be right
