And I think the DC had more games at launch than the GC does now.

Alot of good those games did for it huh? Besides, I don't think anything besides NFL2K and Soul Calibur was any good anyway. Sonic was decent, nothing more.Quote:

I'd take those two over 3/4 of the GC's launch ANY DAY.

If your talking about launch games, well the DC had a better launch lineup, than any game console at launch. PSX had Battle Arena Toshinden, Ridge Racer, and what, Gameday. PS2 had Ridge Racer 5, Tekken Tag TTT, Street Fighter EX3, and Madden 2001. Most of those games were disappointing, and only Madden was considered a killer app in the US. Dreamcast had NFL2k, Sega Rally 2, Soul Caliber, Sonic Adventure, Virtua Fighter 3 TB, Ready to Rumble, Mortal Kombat Gold(Sucks), Blue Stinger, Airforce Delta, and Sega Bass Fishing. The DC launch lineup was considered the best amount of software at launch, for a console.
The biggest reason that DC failed, was because many people had more faith in PS2. The Dreamcast did very well in the US, and had several titles that nearly sold a million units, and the best games per console sales ever. Every DC owner purchased at least 4 games per console purchase. Most consoles average around 1.5 per console sold. Dreamcast even sold better, at this point in X-box and Gamecubes retail availability. It was'nt the X-Box or Gamecube that killed Dreamcast, it was the PS2. Japanese gamers had thei heads so far up Square and Konami's asses, it was'nt even funny. PS2's launch lineup sure was'nt the reason, cause it sucked. Japan actually had an increase in DVD purchases, right after the PS2 launch, because the console was a better DVD player at the time, than it was a viable game provider.
If your talking about games overall, I'm still playing my DC over the PS2, or Gamecube sitting in my entertainment system, as the Dreamcast lineup of games available still provides a far better amount of my playtime. It was'nt until November of 2001, that PS2 had a worthwhile library of games, only because games like Gran Tourismo 3, Metal gear 2, and Final Fantasy X came out.
As far as the Saturn goes, it was a better game playing experience than the PSX was for me. Sega Rally was the best racer on the market at the time, as far as I'm concerned. Virtua Fighter 2 kicked Tekkens ass all over the place, Capcom's 2-d Fighters were far superior 2 those weak offerings on the PSX, World Series Baseball blew away any MLBB offerings on the PSX and I enjoyed Shining the Holy Ark far more than FFVII. Sure the PSX had some phenominal games, but the Saturn was just out advertised, and did'nt offer Football fans a great game of Madden. It was far from a failure in Japan with over 5 million users.
3DO and Jaguar failed to sell even a quarter of the systems that Saturn or Dreamcast sold. They were complete failures.
Soul Calibur not withstanding, name 2. The DC sucked ass.Quote:

I'll leave it to someone else to explain why the DC was pound for pound 2 of the best years of domestic gaming ever.Quote:

But NFL 2K demolished Madden, Power Stone was a truly original take on the fighting genre, Tokyo Extreme Racer outdoes any racer on GC to date (although F-1 could change that), Sonic Adventure was outstanding, House of the Dead 2 is a classic, and even Sega Bass Fishing provided crazy fun. And you can't say "Soul Calibur notwithstanding", since it is better than anything on the Cube so far, and was considered the best 3D fighter ever made until VF4 showed up two and a half years later.
But I wasn't talking about good games, just joking that the GC hasn't seen many games period, quality aside (DC had 16 games available on launch day). I like my Cube just fine, but it's no Dreamcast.

Probably because you never owned one. Unless you've really played the games on a DC, your just another blind gamer playing hyped games on a PS2 or what not. I'm still waiting for the other consoles to provide such a deep lineup of games. Hmmm... Who has 3 of the current top 5 best selling games in the US. That would be Sega with #3-Virtua Fighter 4, #4- Sonic Advance, and #5- Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.
Here is the official launch lineup of the Dreamcast with a total of 19 games.
Sonic Adventure
Soul Calibur
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
Mortal Kombat Gold
Power Stone
Marvel VS. Capcom
King of Fighter Dream Match 99
Hydro Thunder
Trickstyle
TNN Motor Sports Hardcore Heat
Tokyo Extreme Racer
Manaco Grand Prix
Flag to Flag
NFL Blitz 2000
NFL2k
House of the Dead 2
Blue Stinger
Airforce Delta
Armada
I could defineatly pick Armada, Soul Calibur, Tokyo Extreme Racer, Marvel VS. Capcom and House of the Dead 2 out of that list. I also enjoyed Airforce Delta, and Ready 2 Rumble. You may not like NFL football, but NFL2k was considered the best game of NFL at the time.
