You might remember that place from the movie Dazed and Confused. Or not. It's a good place to go for a greasy burger, onion rings and a shake. That's on Burnet Road.

Actually, what I love from there is their fried chicken sandwich, some fries and a chocolate shake. It's pure heaven. I used to go over there if I had a class at Motorola University. Sandy's is on Barton Springs Road, near Auditorium Shores which is on Town Lake where they do outdoor music shows like for Austin City Limits Fest, South By Southwest and the Bob Marley Festival. Also, the greenbelt running trail is there on the shore for you joggers.

Curra's Grill: Moderately priced interior Mexican food. If you're coming to Austin, you should consider stopping here. Just expect it to be crowded. It's not a dress up place, so feel free to dress down like a dirty hippie.

You can order tamales from them right here. Good tamales are hard to come by outside of Texas so you might do yourself a favor and click that link.

They're famous for their Avocado Margaritas, their fish tacos, and their mole enchiladas. That's pronounced molay, in case you wondered; it's not some ground digging varmint, it's a smoky, spicy chocolate sauce, usually put on chicken. Also, for an appetizer, order the goat milk cheese and chorizo queso.

Speaking of chorizo, if you're in Austin and dining out for breakfast, if you're not eating breakfast tacos, you should really try some Migas, and make sure to ask for them made with chorizo. There are a lot of good places to try, but go ahead and go to Guero's I guess. Remember: Migas. Chorizo. Do it.

It's kind of like if you're not from New York but you go visit and you want to try out several pizza places to see which one you think is best. Except it's tacos.

The weather is..well in summer it's just too damn humid, but I like having all four seasons (like they'd be depicted in a child's storybook) decently long. Fall is beautiful.

Dirt and Smell depend on where you are. If you're on the turnpike, absolutely.

And yeah, it's too damn expensive.

Scorge is right. You've NEVER been here when it's like Here. Sadly, we have no natural springs of icy water in Houston and it's hotter here. We have a lukewarm gulf. =/

There's lots of small places I can name in Houston to visit. Franks Pizza by the Slice is great, Niko Niko's for great greek food. Visting Alief is like going to a hybrid of Compton and Saigon but there's all the best oritental food. The Angelica film center is downtown in the theater district (with the aforementioned Franks Pizza as well as The Alley, Wortham and Jones Hall) and it can satisfy your movie going needs if you're a really big film snob. Artfags love the place. If you're too Punk Rock for everything, the Proletariat is there. The furniture is crap salvaged from just about anywhere, the jukebox is nothing but punk, screamo etc. The kareoke nights there are hosted by random punk cover bands and all you do is pick a song, they play it and you sing it. If you go, try to remember that you Don't Care. Unless it's about Bush. Then you start spraypainting buildings with hippy slogans. Cynics welcome, except for people who are cynical about the place itself.

There's Brazils I mentioned earlier - It's another artfag joint. Here you will find expensive world cuisine, a huge stock of wines and import ales as well as local musicians of all sorts (except Metal, it's universally frowned upon there). Agora is across the street from it and is more subdued but much of the same crowd finds themselves there. Contemporary jazz, r&b, elctronic is replaced with The Godfather Soundtrack and obsucre tangos (I must mention that some nights are Tango nights and the downstairs is turned into a dance floor for tango) and things like Enya. The coffee is god, the Chimay is expensive and the people are either quiet and not very sociable or obnoxious dropper-ins who want to 'see what this place is all about.' One of my favorites there is the belly dancing. Greek music and hot women.

I've only been once but the Back Porch seems like an ok place. It's a bar mainly but there seems to be more too it. I was too out of it to remember much of it but I went up there once with Criss and Mike from Corey vs Corey for a little bit. Some other dudes were paying so why not. I may try to find the joint again.
