Releasing consoles with shitty software support for the first year (e.g. PS2, GC, DS, PSP) seems to be the norm now, so I have no problem waiting until all three new systems are on the market before buying one (or maybe two).
PS2 came out fall 2000, based on the traditional 5 year console lifecycle Sony is late and Microsoft is a year early. I hope MS is just launching early because of last generation being the "establish credibility" phase for them, rather than because they want to lower console life cycles to 4 years.Quote:

For this next generation, I really don't care much for the enhanced graphics(though I am an artist, so part of me has to be a graphics whore, but it's more about presentation than pushing polys). I'm much more interested in enhanced AI and new types of gameplay that previously couldn't be done. Sad thing is, you know most people will be focusing on taking the same games and making them prettier.
You'll save a crapload of money waiting, too. I was figuring out what a full 360 preorder will come out to if I got four games - the system, PGR3, Oblivion, Madden, NBA 2K6, a second controller, Live, and a wireless adaptor works out to like $800 after taxes.Quote:

That's pretty much how it looked at E3, if you believed the video. Kutaragi was even crowing that 360 was competing against PS2, not PS3.
It's all about the games'd
Really
I also likely won't be getting these systems on launch, as I did the previous gen. Unless I need to for work or whatever, I'll wait till the game that I just *must* play comes out, AND there's a good lineup of stuff I'm interested in the pipeline.
I suspect these systems are going to be expensive, and I'm not interested in paying top dollar for shitty launch titles.
Okay, so you haven't read the article, have no opinion of your own, and nothing to offer. Why do you have like 5 posts in this thread?Quote:

Like I thought was clear in the original post, and like I clarified a page earlier, and like should be completely obvious, no.Quote:

Yup. We should make a collective of people who think rationally on console launches. We could call them the "League of the Fantastic Pennysavers of Tomorrow".Quote:

Mmm. My pc is probably capable of playing Oblivion, so unless they fuck over their fanbase, I'll be ok on that front. There are a few other potential titles that could really perk up my interest, but it's a little early yet to speculate on potential PS3/revolution launch stuff, and nothing on the 360 has really blown me away so far. Gears of War was enormously disappointing (though I'll reserve full judgement until I see some updated gameplay footage).
