I agree completely, especially when you think about how Snape had to take the unbreakable vow. If Snape didn't kill Dumbledore, he might have died himself. Dumbledore was probably asking him to be the one to do it, not begging for mercy. Guess we'll find out next book.Quote:

I have zero doubt Dumbledore's death was a ruse. Think about it - Voldemort is the greatest mind-reader the wizards have ever known, while Snape is the greatest at resisting mind-reading. This makes him the only viable double-agent the good guys have - anyone else would be an open book to Voldemort. The problem is, I'm sure Voldemort knows about Snape's talent and suspects it's being employed against him, so Snape would have to do something extraordinary to earn Voldemort's full trust. Dumbledore gave his life to supply that "something extroadinary" - I'm very anxious to see just what Snape is to do that was that important to Dumbledore.
I'm gonna have to read 5 and 6 again. And then 4 before the movie comes out. I can't wait to see it on IMAX.
I'm going to have to read this again, but I think its a ruse. Like, Dumbledores not even actually dead. With everyone thinking he is it sets up Snape really well, gives Harry a really good reason to go hunt Voldemort down, and gives him a chance to help Harry without anyone knowing he's still around. I mean if one person in this series can figure out how to cheat death why cant another? Also, since the series is for kids I can't believe that Rowling would send the message that people never deserve a second chance.

I knew Dumbledore was getting offed in this one after reading Order of the Phoenix. It had to happen that the last father figure is removed from Harry's life. Before I read the book I guessed Snape only because I thought he was the least likely to do so and was mildly pleased at how he did it. She did a great job building it up so that you can't truly speculate whether he's a good guy or not. It really is equally 50:50. Personally, though, I'd love to skip the Obi-Wan cop out and have it be that Snape was totally fooling Dumbledore and killed him on purpose in cold blood.
The Half-Blood Prince was clearly Snape because of what he says about Potions in the first book. It was just interesting to see where he came up with the name and finding out that he wasn't a pure-blood. Slytherin himself would not like the head of his house being a half-blood. That, unfortunately, lends me to believe that Dumbledore and Snape set up the Obi-Wan for Harry.
EDIT: We'll find out in the next book when Harry receives the memory that Dumbledore left him about all of this stuff. That's what will bring Harry back to Hogwarts.
The bits where Harry and Dumbledore look into the pensieve are really well done and help fill in a whole lot of great missing elements from the prior books. And, as for the biggest surprise of the book:
R.A.B. may not be Regulus. I get the feeling, from Harry's duel with Voldemort at the end of Goblet of Fire, that R.A.B. is a Bryce. Just a small feeling. The evidence does seem to fit Regulus, but you never know.
