All literature did for me was to ruin any good book by making me spend too much time on it writing essays, etc, which just made me hate the book.
For example, all the people in my class hate John Steinbeck because they studied "Of Mice and Men", yet personally I enjoyed the book, and he is one of my favourite authors.
I cannot see any point in studying literature, unless you're going to be an author, although the existance of literature itself is very important
