It doesn't suck. A mediocre script is its only failing, as everything else came together wonderfully. Yes, even the acting, which made the best of an admittedly bad starting point. And from a technical perspective (direction, editing, set design, etc.) the movie is among the absolute best. Hell, I don't even like the film and I recognize it does some things amazingly well.

Long story short: just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's not a well-made product, as your personal taste isn't the alpha and omega of quality.

I guess it did have DiCaprio's impression of an ice cube going for it.

DiCaprio's acting is one of the best aspects of the movie, especially considering what he was given. Read the script (Cameron's worst by a huge margin) and you'll see that Jack was barely a character in the first place. No characterization at all. Joe Blow pins this on DiCaprio because most people don't know any better, but most people who actually know something about acting are aware that he did a fantastic job of making something out of nothing.

For comparison: Ewan McGregor isn't a shitty, wooden actor, but he can only do so much when presented with a shitty, wooden script and an apathetic director.

For comparison Star Wars Episodes I-III all kicked the fuck of out of Titanic. James Cameron should have been shot right after T2. Talk about jumping the shark.
