Apparently, HBO is setting up peers on torrents sharing their shows that share junk data to inhibit downoads.

I had a great argument ready to go here, but then realized that we're talking HBO, not network TV, and I guess HBO does have a right to fight against this sort of thing. If we get this same thing happening for network or standard cable TV, then boy, am I ready with a great internet rant!
I'd rather see companies take this approach as opposed to suing everyone and whining to the govt.
They're protecting their copyrights without disrupting the legitimate BT users.
BT has been a godsend for those who have content to share, but can't afford bandwidth, especially fledgling websites and open source developers.
I'd hate to see it brought down by narrowminded judges and politicians, so I'm glad HBO is taking this approach.
how can they stop a torrent? thier files won't have the proper checksum, it'll just be recognized as junk. If they try to start thier own torrent no one will seed. I don't get it
edit - yeah the article explains it. I don't think HBO can stop very many people with this.
But it's so easy for them to do that even if they can only deter let's say 10% of those trying to illegally dl their shit, then it might be worth it.
They were doing this when the last season of six feet under was on. Its easy as hell to block.
