The upcoming PSP software thread.
So yeah, many here seem content in bashing the PSP's software lineup, and acting as if it belongs in a spot next to the N-Gage or Virtual Boy. I think it has more to do with an underlying dislike of Sony, but for those who are legitimately interested in knowing whether the PSP has anything to offer that is to your taste, here's a thread where I'll try to briefly detail many of the system's promising upcoming games. :)
Loco Roco
SCEI / SCEI
http://greggman.com/images/random/locoroco.jpg
This is probably the PSP game I'm most looking forward to (as you can tell by my av :p). It just looks like such a brilliant, refreshing little game. You play the game using merely the L and R buttons, rotating the world around you in accordance, and holding and releasing both to make your little blob sperm happy face man jump.
Extreme Ghouls n Ghosts
Capcom / Capcom
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen001.jpg
Probably among the top of many oldschool gamers' lists, this is a full blown new addition to the GnG series, and it looks like sex. That's pretty much all that needs to be said.
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner
Atlus / Atlus
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen003.jpg
Port of the Saturn game which was never localized. I'm glad they're doing this, because I'd like to see as much of the series as possible, but it is pretty weak that they're simply throwing on borders to the game instead of taking advantage of the full screen.
Every Extend Extra
Q Entertainment / Q Entertainment
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/Andy787/e3.jpg
This started out as a shareware PC game, but now that it has been infused with Tetsuya Mizaguchi's magical, magical semen, it is infinitely sexier to the senses, and shall no doubt make for an amazingly addictive experience.
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
Rockstar Games / Rockstar Leeds
http://pspmedia.ign.com/psp/image/ar...7012942941.jpg
I hear this might be a pretty cool game.
Tokobot
Tecmo / Team Deception
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen002.jpg
Interesting, unique little game that seems to take hints from Pikmin and adds them to a platformer. You use your little band of robots to aid you through levels, forming bridges for you, fighting for you, and performing various other tasks.
My My Katamari Damacy
Namco / Namco
http://ps2media.gamespy.com/ps2/imag...9093955437.jpg
What needs to be said? Katamari on the go. Hooray.
Pursuit Force
SCEA / SCEE
http://ps2media.gamespy.com/ps2/imag...5001302090.jpg
Impressive looking game centered around car chases, which escalate from tailing fools in a car/bike while in a moving shootout, to in-air car jacking, to taking to a speedboat, to jumping to a helicopter, and I'm sure continuing hijinx ensues.
Mega Man: Powered Up
Capcom / Capcom
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen001.jpg
Full remake of the original Mega Man for the NES, as well as the addition of a stage edit mode, that lets you create your own Mega Man levels and trade them with friends. (stage edit mode pictured)
Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X
Capcom / Capcom
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen003.jpg
Full remake of Mega Man X for the SNES. This, MM2, and MML remain my favorite Mega Man games, so I'm actually excited about this. I think it looks very nice, too, but reactions are mixed.
Exit
Taito / Taito
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen002.jpg
Very, very cool looking game. Looks to have a Viewtiful Joe-ish graphical style, with some really nice animation. You play as a detective (or something..) and, from what has been shown so far, it appears to be a sort of sidescrolling action/puzzler.
Suikoden I + II
Konami / Konami
http://www.rpgfan.com/pics/suikodenpsp/ss-005.jpg
I'm really psyched for this. I never got the chance to play the first two, which many consider some of the best RPGs of all time, and it looks like they're really putting the effort into this. Looks gorgeous.
Legend of Heroes
Bandai / Falcom
http://pspmedia.ign.com/psp/image/ar...5101538540.jpg
Absolutely beautiful looking RPG (as should be expected, coming from Falcom), it's a part of a larger series in Japan and is supposedly a very meaty adventure.
Socom: Fireteam Bravo
SCEA / Zipper Interactive
http://pspmedia.ign.com/psp/image/ar...9054910557.jpg
I got in the beta for this, and the netcode was surprisingly decent. Didn't really have much problem as far as latency or anything, and the online interface was pretty well-featured. The game itself however was definitely very early, with some animation not up to par, muddy textures, and they hadn't even put in footstep sound effects yet. :p But with the added time, it may very well turn out to be a decent CS-style game on the go.
Monster Hunter: Portable
Capcom / Capcom
http://pspmedia.ign.com/psp/image/ar...7054559485.jpg
This is quite possibly the most graphically impressive game yet for the PSP. It looks incredible in motion, doing things I didn't think we'd ever be seeing on the PSP. I just really hope it winds up being online, because as of now it is currently not announced to be, which would be kind of a waste. Almost like making PSO without online play.
Metal Gear Acid 2
Konami / Kojima Productions
http://pspmedia.ign.com/psp/image/ar...7062245771.jpg
Right up there with Monster Hunter, this looks fantastic. MGA2 adds not only the new cel-shaded graphics engine, but a drastically enhanced interface, and the weird-as-fuck goggle peripheral that you literally stick right on the PSP. No idea what actually happens when you do so, but I'm interested.
Field Commander
SoE / SoE
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen009.jpg
I don't really hold much faith in Sony Online, outside of Snowblind's games, but this may actually turn out good. Essentially, it looks to be taking Advance Wars-style gameplay, and mixing it with Total Annihilation's aesthetic and versatility (many different units on all fronts, so you can wage battles from land, sea, etc.)
Portable Resort
Namco / Namco
http://namco-ch.net/portable_resort/.../img/img05.jpg
Likely taking a cue from DS games with similarly unconventional game concepts, this seems to be Namco's take on Lost in Blue/Survival Kids, and considering how much fun I'm having with Lost in Blue right now, I'm all for it. The day/night cycles and atmosphere look really nice. Even has some of it's own physical gimmicks ala DS features, such as being able to play a ukelele by holding the PSP sideways and flipping the analog nub while holding buttons to form chords. :p
Princess Crown
Atlus / Atlus
http://pspmedia.ign.com/psp/image/ar...1110841983.jpg
I haven't played the original release on the Saturn, but like their port of SMT, Atlus is just throwing the lame sidebars on to this as well. Still, I know there are a lot of fans of the game, and it's nice to see some of the good stuff from the Saturn finally getting brought to more modern consoles.
Generation of Chaos
Nippon Ichi / Idea Factory
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen003.jpg
I have no experience with this series, but I've heard it is a pretty decent tactical strategy game, with a Civiliazation-like overworld, and I figure Nippon Ichi is bringing it over, so some of you may be interested.
Harvest Moon: Innocent Life
Marvelous / Victor Interactive
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/Andy787/hm.jpg
The latest entry in the HM series looks to be the first game to really change up the formula in a long time. And of course, it looks beautiful, so here's hoping the gameplay stacks up, and makes the series interesting again.
Twelve
Konami / Konami
http://watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20050712/twe02.jpg
I don't know what the chances of seeing this over here are, but I really hope it makes it over. It's a turn based strategy game from Konami ala FFT/Ogre Battle, with battle animations like Fire Emblem and some really nice art.
Baito Hell 2000
SCEI / SCEI
http://ps2media.gamespy.com/ps2/imag...9010513081.jpg
Sony's stab at Wario Ware. :)
