Robobo - Now with more designs!

I'm going to be trying a 25 page graphic novel for next years Christmas on Robobo involving these character. I've begun to write it, and it's going to take awhile. I won't get in to it anymore, but thanks for the compliments. I didn't draw them all by hand, though, so it takes longer and why they look so much more polished.

Robobo is strictly hand drawn (completely) and coloured to help me get better with drawing in general. Plus it gives me a vehicle to do this other neat stuff. As you can tell, Jonas is a lot more ornery than I am. I like the feedback given to me here, and I've been taking in to consideration when making comics.

Good attitude. Some folks are giving good suggestions, others are just being arses. Can you imagine if folks like Gabe and Tyco or the Chaps brothers had used a forum like this for "feedback" before launching their projects? :rolleyes:

Most people like Twee the best, but I personally like Lorenzo the most out of all of them.

I still have to add in the "graphics" of the piece. This is just a mock-up to show the level of detail and sophistication I want to undertake with this project. I want it to LOOK like a Christmas fable. Obviously the other half of the challenge is getting it to sound and feel like one. I'll probably be using this thread to update everyone as I go along, should they be interested.

They probably did. Not everyone is unable to handle harsh criticism and its not uncommon for people to seek it out when all you get from your usual hangouts are positive inoffensive comments.

Tycho is notorious for shrugging off skeptics and harsh criticism as simple misunderstanding or artistic interpretation. I remember him ranting for two paragraphs during one of his updates about how people were stupid for expecting continuity in Penny Arcade. I agreed with him. Continuity in gag-a-day strips can be hazardous. If something happens to a character you love you don't panic if you know it's all for laughs and he'll be back to normal next week.

Anyway, he's pretty outspoken. I imagine that worst thing about critiquing Tycho's work is that he would run circles around you with his huge vocabulary. I'm sweating just thinking about it.

I like criticism. If you don't know you're at fault with something you're not going to get better. It's useless bullshit from some people that ruffles my feathers, especially in Galleria, a forum more notably calm and open.

I don't like the way Tycho's chin gets bigger and bigger every week. I think PA looks worse every day.

I like the Christmas stuff.

Andrew, I like Foggy the best. Mainly for his wrapping job on that ball.

I agree that the Santa and Elves exude a charm and quality still not apparent in Robobo. I'm not sure if they took much longer to design/illustrate then Robobo frames, but if Robobo characters started looking more like those it would be a huge step forward.

I didn't draw them by hand, and yes they do take a lot longer. As I've said before, Robobo's main goal is to help me improve my hand drawing skills as well as some minor storytelling ability through experience. I turned it in to a webcomic to force me to practice a minimum of twice a week. Drawing with Adobe Illustrator is remarkably different than doing it all by hand, and also invites a lot of new issues to overcome.

I drew all of these Christmas characters in Illustrator. I'll be adding in Frosty, Jack Frost, Frostbite and a female snow character I haven't named yet. (I'm looking at something like Jezebel) This is something that's going to take me a good chunk of time to do working around Robobo, but I'm comitted. I'm having a blast coming up with these characters.

Another great thing about drawing in Illustrator (Adobe Illustrator) is that I can scale these cartoons up 100x their size for whatever the purpose and they will look just as cool, quality wise.

I'm going to be printing these characters on cards to hand out to family and whatnot with their gifts. Using variable data I'll be able to customize each cards inside to specifically say their name.

Based on everybody's collective experiences with wrapping things that aren't perfectly square.
