Computer snoops

I was talking to one of my friends today at lunch. He brought to my attention that my room mate got some porn off my computer and they sat and watched it this weekend while I was at my folk’s house.

The thing is, I don't want anyone looking at the shit on my computer. I literally save everything. I probably have half the stupid shit I’ve posted in “other” part of TNL saved on my computer. I often times get torrents for shit and go months with out even checking to see what it is. The garbage on there does not truly reflect my taste, so it kind of pisses me off that he got something off of it and is telling people its mine, when it could be anything. Apparently the video in question had something to do with dogs, and dicks coming out of chairs.

I'm really tempted to find a torrent for something horrible like furry porn or something and saving it all over the computer as "super hot sex action.”

What would you guys do?

Uhm.... setup your computer so you have to log in with a password.

I'm pretty sure he knows how to get around that. He knows more about computers than I do, and is brought in by the school to fix the computers on campus when the computer department can't fix them.

Depending on what OS youre using, its pretty difficult to get around having to log into your computer.

Tell them the next time they touch your computer that you're going to call up the RA (or whatever) and report them for fucking with your shit.

Seriously man, don't stand for this kind of thing. If I lived in a dorm and one of my dormmates watched porn on my computer, I'd kick his ass.

My suggestions?

1) Make sure you have a firewall running without an exception for file/printer sharing.

2) Like Rhydant said, put a password on your machine. Also disable the Welcome screen (under Users in the Control Panel) so that you can lock the screen when you walk away by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del.

3) (EDIT: removed as I didn't catch the part about you being in a dorm)

The physical access part is the real kicker, because as long as he has physical access to it, he'll be able to use it. The key will be to make it very difficult for him to do so. If you don't mind going into the BIOS, just set it up where you can't boot off anything but the hard drive, and password-protect the BIOS. He can get around that, but if he does you have a real case against him with the RA for breaking into your personal shit.

Install a bios password or something. Can't boot the PC without it. Well, that's if they still do that on PCs these days.

Or, one better, clean up your HD, and replace all the good stuff with renamed horse porn in the 'usual' locations.

I think he directly shares his bedroom with this guy, and I think he's also physically going onto the PC to watch the porn. He needs a password or three, as you said.
