My dad told me the other day that he and the electrical engineering firm he works for are doing work for a company called Blue Origin, owned by Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, who bought up 165,000 acres in west Texas to build a privately run spaceport. I was like, wtf.
I believed him, but I hadn't heard anything about this. Apparently the public announcement happened earlier this year.
The Texas ranch is where the launch site/spaceport is being developed. But manufacturing for the spaceport will be taking place in a 243,000 sq ft facility located in Kent, Washinton.Quote:
Bezos' Seattle-based Blue Origin suborbital space venture is starting the process to build an aerospace testing and operations center on a portion of the Corn Ranch, a 165,000-acre spread that the 41-year-old billionaire purchased north of Van Horn, Texas. Over the next six or seven years, the team would use the facility to test components for a craft that could take off and land vertically, carrying three or more riders to the edge of space.
Hey, apparently they're hiring!
