There's just about no one at my work right now. I wasn't affected by the strike because I come into the city from NJ via public transporation and I walk to work from the Port Authority. In fact, the strike made my commute through the Lincoln Tunnel faster due to the scaring away of cars. Nonetheless, this strike sucks big time for everyone else and I hope the MTA and the Transit Union resolves this ASAP.
Looks like I'll be having chair races with some of my co-workers later today.
Because it's smart to hire 50K additional workers to do nothing?Quote:

New York sucks.
When I first heard this on the news: "NY City transit system is closed down..." 'Oh crap...terrorism!"...due to a workers' strike..." ....bwahahahahaha! I went from concern to apathy in record time.
Well, the TWU is fucked. The walk-out was just ruled as unconsciable and completely against the rules for which they agreed upon. They're now being fined one million dollars a day, plus $25,000 PER UNION MEMBER which will DOUBLE each day, and a bunch of other really hefty fines.
TWU bitches still won't back down, though. Said they would stop IF they get a 6% pay increase each year AS WELL AS all fines nullified. Oh, with concessions. Greedy fucking assholes.
Seriously. This goes well beyond workers' rights.Quote:

From what I understand, all these fines should legally have to go through the employer, cause in the case of strike or walkout, there's nothing much they can do cept fire them.
No, I'm talking about people with this kind of experiance waiting at the chance to get a job in the case of an emergancy. You don't get paid when you're not on the card.Quote:
