A lot of casual gamers would be happy if they can continue playing the latest games on their PS2 for another full year, but Sony needs to get the PS3 into the market before this year's holiday season if they want to maintain their marketshare.
There's no point in them giving MS a second unchallenged xmas rush.

I personally would have zero problem with not having PS3 until 07. I think if they waited until then demand would be monkey spunk crazy.

People always say stuff like this, but I have yet to ever hear anything pointing to sony actually losing money, or floundering around in any way.

That's not a flame, by the way. if you have a link showing sony in some kind of financial trouble, I'd really like to see it.

60 minutes or one of those news magazine show did an indepth interview on Sony's CEO Howard Stringer last week because he is the first foreign Sony CEO and his task is to bring Sony back from the red (I believe Games wrote that Sony lost 90 million dollars last fiscal year). Howard Stringer even admitted that Sony got lazy (to paraphase) and allowed their competitors to market/sell more products than them (i.e. Ipod and Itunes, Samsung's HDTVs, etc).

But the Playstation brand is still a strong one, assuming they don't fuck it up.
