The More Things Change...

Most of the big Konami franchises are likely to rake me in; Metal Gear Solid is pretty much a definate, Castlevania in 2D is a proven formula that I'd support but if they made a good 3D I'd bite, Silent Hill used to be spotless and a must have franchise until that abortion that was The Room, I'd still give the series another chance and pretend like that last one never happened.

I'd buy another HALO, though only if they keep the multi-player up to the standard they set with 2, I just won't waste my time with single-player. Burnout has never failed me so I'll continue buying the games until the gimmick finally wears off or they somehow manage to turn out a big dud. That's about all I can think of.

yoshi, i agree with you. we all just got old, and shifted priorities. the only 2 franchises that mean anything for me anymore are legend of zelda and the elder scrolls, and with the tes series, i am a relative newb, having only played morrowind. When you are older you get affected less and less by the gee whizz factor of new games and you start asking yourself, will i really play this much?

the only thing i kind of disagree with you on is mmo's, while i play them, i readily admit that its usually not because of the game, its because you get to screw around with a bunch of other people with somewhat similar interests and cut up. Would we have really all liked world of warcraft if the rest of tnl was not playing? doubtful, mmo's actual gameplay is still pretty poor, its being able to play with a large group of friends, kind of like a virtual pick up basketball game, thats fun. on most mmo's the most memorable times i have had was just messing around and making a bunch of people laugh, the actual game usualy is a grind with some eye candy, this is true across the board, even my beloved city of heroes, since mmo's are pretty rigid in how you can play different characters i know exaclty what i will be doing tonight, regardless of what team i get on or what enemy group im fighting. but, what will be fun will be me making my team crack up, and thats more what im excited about.

well, it works, less spent for games i dont play, oblivion will hit hopefully in less than 2 months, and looks like it will offer a ton of content, and with the user modding community, hopefully it will last as long for me as morrowind. the new zelda will hit some time this year and i want to see that, and spore, that looks new, but i dont see a whole lot of first tier must haves coming.

i still remember hitting the wal-mart the day the x-box launched because that was the only local retail store open 24 hours that would be selling it, so i could get it at midnight of launch day, i was really excited. The 360, which looks cool in the long run, just had nothing to do that for me. i may do that for the rev, but at this point thats more about maintianing nostalgia than anything else.

If the following games were announced they would get me to buy a system:

Skies of Arcadia 2 - I thought this was rumored a LONG time ago, but I haven't heard anything new on this.

Maximo 3 - Maximo and Maximo vs Army of Zin are two of the best platforming games this generation. If they announced part 3 for the PS3 I would pick it up.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 - The first game left off with a little cliff hanger, and I would like to see more from this series.

Breakdown 2 - I would love to see a sequel to this game with prettier graphics...and maybe some physics from Half Life 2.

Banjo Kazooie 3 - If it plays anything like Banjo Kazooie 1 AND NOT Banjo Tooie

Blast Corps 2 - Rare needs to make a sequel to one of their best games.

Mario - A new 2-D Mario game PLEASE!! I suppose thats why I got the DS though.

Mario and Luigi 3 - Superstar Saga and Partners in time are superb. I can't wait to see another one.

Luigis Mansion 2 - Yes, I am serious, Luigi's Mansion rocked.

Metroid Prime 3
Zelda
Star Fox
Resident Evil 5
God of War 2

AND, basically as many RPG's as possible...Grandia, Chrono Trigger, Tales of..., Shadow Hearts, Baten Kaitos, and so on...

These games play pretty much the same. I've just been playing through BT recently. BK is a little more compact and has better places. Treasure Trove Cove > anything I've seen in BT.

Zelda makes me buy systems.

I like all sorts of games, but a new Halo is the only game that gives me that special feeling like when I was a kid reading about, say Ninja Gaiden 2 or Thunder Force 4.

A new Panzer Dragoon might do it too, but that will never happen.

Its been a LONG time since I was truly excited about a new game. I was pretty pumped for 360 but nothing to lose any sleep over. I was pretty excited for Halo 2 when it came out though.
