Jury Duty

I served on the jury for the first time last year. I've been called in, but never put on a jury. When I told them I worked for the media it seemed like they really wanted me on the jury for some reason. It was just an illegal immigrant case. They might have also though I was hispanic, I dunno.

It was worth it though cause the defense attorney was hot in the young school librarian way. Too bad she was completely awful as an attorney. I think I was just picturing her naked the whole time during the case.

Actually he was making sure his client gets his constitutional right of due process. I'm pretty sure you would want that from your lawyer, huh?

About a year after I started my first post-college job, I was called for Jury Duty. I remember seeing an old tape with Ed Bradley about the importance of jury duty.

Didn't get past the selection process. I spent nearly two full days (they let us out early on the second day) sitting in a room playing Advance Wars on my GBA (good times!). Since I was working for the City of New York, I was paid in full for those two days.

I've been called into jury duty a few times. I've never actually BEEN to jury duty though, the cases I was called into fell through (probably due to a plea bargain of some sort.)

I can't wait to get jury duty so I can talk about how much I don't like black people during the selection process.

The guy sitting next to me during jury selection was black guy who was an assistant principal of some school. It was explained to us over and over and over that the "gang attack" charge meant that 3 or more people attacked one person, and that the defendant was not an actual "gang member." Then they ask the assistant school principal if he feels he can be impartial and he goes, "Well, I's don't be approvin' of da gang violence. I's deals wit dat in da schoolz, young peoples be joinin' da gangz, youknowwhatimsayin'?"

This is a plan which will work.

It's easy to get bounced from jury duty. One woman was all like, "My son was attacked by a gang once, and this is bringing it all back to me! ...*sob*..."

Yea, it is easy, but anyone who lies to get out of it is part of the problem. I mean, we live in a country where Congress and the Prez can basically do whatever the fuck they want because most people dont give a shit. They dont give a shit about the Constitution or the ideals of this country or what its founded upon - jury duty IS part of that as is making sure your fellow citizen gets his or her due process. Some also say it is the duty of juries to not convict people of laws they find unjust, and if people were more diligent, hell, we may not have the ridiculous prison overpopulation or war on drugs we have now.

But as long as people have their HDTV, cheap gas, and football on Sundays they are content to spout meaningless slogans and put stickers on their SUVs. So if you wanna make shit up to get out of it just dont complain when the NSA is watching you while you do your We Love the President calisthetics in the morning.

I got called to jury duty but once three and a half years ago, but couldnt go because I was in Los Angeles. I registered there too, never got called in.

yeah, had a easy one, it was a pretty open and shut case so it only lasted one day. my immunity is over now though so i could get called back now. the only reason i feel cheated is we never got any videos, we just got dropped in, and got our instructions before the trial. the one thing i learned is to not dread it, my first experience was better than most, but still its not that bad. besides, johnstown has next to no crime anyhow, so if i get called, it will probably be for another stupid traffic fight like that one.
