yes, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts (Chomakaimura or Choumakaimura) is a completely different game. although it is part of the series. it's the sequel to Daimakaimura ~ Ghouls N Ghosts. I love it for what it is. it did not have a direct arcade parent to live upto, although I do think the very different Daimakaimura arcade is superior overall to Super Ghouls. in Super Ghouls, you cannot attack up-down, which is a step back. however the double jump is very cool and helps the gameplay. the slow pace of the game is something i did not care for though, after the relatively lightning fast gameplay of Daimakaimura.

indeed it is. we get a 98% exact port of Daimakaimura
(no, it's not 100% exact but its very good, and still arcade-quality)

About 5 years ago I finally got CG2 for the Saturn. I was floored by how better looking the arcade game was when compared to the Genesis.
same with me, when i saw the real arcade game at Six Flags in summer 1990, a few months after buying the 'virtual carbon-copy' Genesis version, i was awe-struck :D

The music is much more orchestrated and sounds comes across as far superior to the Genesis game.
I agree it is more orchestrated, and although technically superior to the Genesis version's music (i wont argue against facts) i actually prefer the way the Genesis music sounds.
there is one massive problem with the music in Saturn and Playstation Daimakaimura, which i assume was also carried over to the Capcom Classics Collection on PS2-Xbox since the Playstation CG2 version was used for CCC.... that is, the ending music right after you defeat Lucifer is botched. it sounds nothing like the arcade game or even the Genesis version. the ending music that is there is not even playable in the sound test (which goes upto track 25)... the proper ending music is track 26 on Genesis and I think track 19 in the arcade... anyway, they screwed it up. so CG2/CCC is not perfect even though its still awesome.

Any fan of this game, or series should really play the arcade version and see it for themselves.
very much agreed!

The difficulity is also higher (in particular the boss battles), giving you a better challenge than the walk in the park that GnG is on the Genesis.
absolutely true, yeah.

It had been over 10 years since I had played GnG in the arcade, and I didn't play it much at the arcade.
I only got to play the real actual arcade machine that one time in summer 1990, will never forget the shock I got when I saw it destroys the Genesis version.

**The Capcoms Classic game is not even woth playing IMO, as the controller seems rather incompatible for 2D games, in particular the directional on the controller S is very stiff, and difficult to use in comparison with the Saturn or Genesis controller. Maybe it takes some getting used to, but I wasn't going to bother as I'd rather just play it on my Saturn.
I have the Xbox version. it's based on the Playstation Capcom Generation 2 as i said. same problem with the distant parallax background exists. they're the same as the arcade, no downgrade (like SuperGrafx or Genesis) but they're way too dark to see properly without turning up the brightness on your screen. the Xbox controller is not the best way to play it. It is STILL arcade-quality just not arcade perfect.

**Interesting to see what EGM had to say about GnG, they got carried away in their comparison quite a bit, as the Genesis GNG game was the best looking console game to date in late 1989 when it debuted but fell nothing of the quality of the superior aracade version.
definitally agree there. at least EGM didn't say 'arcade perfect' back in those days (i think GameFan coined that awful phrase)......... EGM never actually said either Genesis or SuperGrafx versions were identical to the arcade, but they got close to saying it.
here are five EGM mini-articles from 1990 on SuperGrafx Ghouls 'N Ghosts:
